Teaching Tuesday Recap: Yesterday, we had the pleasure of volunteering for the 2nd time at the first day of Peace camp held at the Cavalier Manor Rec Center, an initiative spearheaded by A Purpose Driven. Our team of 2 from Glamour Prestige and Dime & Diva’s Roll and Press led a captivating workshop titled “What Do You Do With an Idea?” Throughout the day, we conducted three rotations of instructional activities, engaging with over 30 children.

Each session kicked off with a planned agenda as follows:

Kids' Emotional Check-In: Each session began with an activity that allowed children to select an emoticon reflecting their current feelings, encouraging them to express and share their emotions openly.

Hidden Pictures Challenge: This interactive activity was designed to foster problem-solving skills in a playful and engaging manner. Kids were able to win a prize.

Storytime Session: The highlight for many, we delved into "What Do You Do With an Idea?" through a read-aloud, captivating the children’s attention and imagination.

Idea Illustration: Children were given the opportunity to draw their ideas, encouraging them to think about innovation and potential future careers in a creative format.

Canvas Crafting with Roll & Press: A hands-on activity where children created their own canvas pencil pouches, reinforcing the theme of the day.

The session wrapped up with children choosing their favorite color for a "Bright Ideas" canvas pencil pouch, intended to hold all their creative ideas and projects.

For Woman Crush Wednesday, I’m beyond blessed to shout out my gratitude to St. John Church for welcoming me as the speaker for Sisterhood Month. We dived into “Unveiling the Tapestry of Sisterhood,” exploring the beautiful, intricate connections among Christian women. From the profound lessons of Proverbs 27:17, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another,” to crafting our “Sisterhood Stories” Scrapbooks, we celebrated unity, support, and the unbreakable bonds of sisterhood in Christ. This journey through scripture, activities, and heartfelt crafts has not only enriched our faith but also strengthened our connections. A massive thank you to every sister who shared in this journey. Let’s keep nurturing these divine connections, living out compassion, empathy, accountability, and friendship. Here’s to our sisterhood, woven with the threads of God’s love and grace! 🌸✨

This Tuesday, we're shining a light on a groundbreaking training session that took place at The Virginia Department of Education’s Special Education in Local and Regional Jails Educator Conference.

👩‍🏫 **Dr. Walker and Dr. Smith** presented "**Unlocking Literacy: The Blueprint for Success**," a dynamic two-hour workshop tailored for educators dedicated to transforming the lives of high school students and adults through literacy in carceral environments.

Inspired by the transformative power of Jay-Z's iconic Blueprint album and Jelly Roll’s Whitsitt Chapel, our session unveiled a creative and innovative approach to literacy education, specifically designed for incarcerated learners.

Traveling and Teaching Thursday: Everyone that knows me knows that I love and I have self-proclaimed myself the Beyonce of Education, Incarceration and Manifestation. These three components are my passion in life. Therefore, when I traveled on this week to Petersburg, then my presentation had a Beyonce and Beehive theme.

My presentation was entitled, “Upgrade Your Classroom Groove: Flocab & Nearpod, Where Education meets Bey-brilliance!” Each section of the presentation was a Destiny’s Child or Beyonce song and the agenda was as follows:
-Icebreaker: “Which Beyonce song describes your teaching style? This was a great hit and most teachers chose Survivor.
-Survivor: Overview & Teaching Challenges
-Irreplaceable: Nearpod & Flocab Essentials
-Love on Top: Nearpod & Flocab in Action
-Best thing I never had: Bey-Brillant Lesson Ideas

I even had Beyonce tangible note takers created by Dime & Diva’s Roll and Press for the teachers to take notes. The lesson plan was derived from a SOL and VESOL rooted in Beyoncé’s Little Golden Book. I had bee pens, real honey jars and Beyonce’s songs bracelets. Yall know Dr. Diva loves to create a good professional development.

The teachers enjoyed it and teaching and training has been my “thing” since I started teaching in 2004. I can create lessons for everyone to be able to learn because that’s the gift that my God gave me.

Bible Study Wednesday:

I’m back y’all! Many of you know that one of my gifts from God is that He plants the words in me to share with the world. Women Crush Wednesday: 9 years ago on today, then I became a statistic. According to the US Census Bureau, only 1.2% of the US population has a PhD. The number of black women from an urban city is so little that I can’t even produce the number. I thank God for making me a statistic. A statistic that represents Portsmouth to the fullest. A statistic whose life has been divided into 3 main areas which is Education, Incarceration and Manifestion. A statistic that will never give up on helping other statistics. A statistic so great that in 2023, then she became a high school commencement speaker in Florida and was quoting Nas. Today, I’m proud to be a statistic from Portsmouth and no one can ever take that away from me. I’m your favorite doctor, Dr. Jaclyn Teresa Walker AKA Dr. Diva Barbie! This is a message to anyone who is a statistic, make your numbers count. The sky is the limit!
