Christopher Academy

What a tremendous start to the school year! The children are settling in and we are busy in the classrooms learning routines, discovering new things and making friends. To name just a few… students have been tending the garden and chicken coup, playing summer math games, learning about symmetry, calendars and the abacus, celebrating apple day and dot day, Mat Man, enjoying PA, working with scissors and glue, enjoying the sandbox, working on team building activities, caught being Kind and Proud Pals. We have also begun field trips, first and second grade went on two fabulous field trips to York River & the Learning Barge and third-fifth grade began weekly trips to the YMCA. And we would like to introduce Simon & Garfunkel, the class pets in fourth and fifth grade. We are off to a great 2026-2027 school year!

What a great first day for our K-5th grade students! We are beyond excited to welcome the students and faculty back to school and to start the 2026-2027 school year. It was amazing to see all the happy faces and to welcome so many new students. Thank you to Amy Maynard for the beautiful balloon columns and last year's fifth grade class for the new Christopher Academy flags!
Our preschool & prekindergarten students will join us next week and we can't wait!
If you have a picture of your child from today, please share in the comments. Thank you! |

Christopher Academy families and friends had the unique opportunity yesterday morning to tour one of the visiting tall ships, the ARA Libertad. Christopher Academy proudly adopted the ship as part of Sail250. The Libertad serves as the sail training vessel of the Argentine Navy and travels the world as a floating ambassador of goodwill for Argentina.

The crew could not have been more welcoming. Our liaison, Ariel, and members of the crew provided a private tour of the ship, including the bridge, hospital, and crew mess areas, offering a fascinating glimpse into life aboard this historic vessel.

As part of our welcome, Christopher Academy presented each crew member with a gift bag filled with CA spirit items, handwritten letters from our students, and a selection of popular American snacks and beverages. We also shared a collection of beautiful student artwork inspired by Argentine artists. A special thank you to Mrs. Brickey for guiding our students in creating such meaningful and thoughtful pieces.

At the conclusion of our visit, the crew graciously hosted refreshments and presented Christopher Academy with a beautifully engraved painting of the ARA Libertad, which will be proudly displayed at the school.

We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who helped make this memorable experience possible: Ken Newman, Christopher Academy Board of Trustees member, for connecting us with Sail250; Donna Davenport for coordinating the visit; our CA families for donating items for the welcome bags; Ella Borstelmann for assembling the gift bags; the volunteers who delivered them to the ship; and all the families who joined us for the tour.

This was truly an unforgettable experience and a wonderful opportunity to strengthen international friendships while creating lasting memories for our school community!
