After Mass, Bishop Bruce Lewandowski toured our beautiful campus and took time to visit each corner of Cory’s Lane. 🗺️ Starting with our youngest learners and ending with our soon-to-be graduates, everyone shared their daily routines at Saint Philomena School of the Sacred Heart.
Bishop Bruce delighted the children with stories, laughter, and words of encouragement. He also offered his blessing to everyone he encountered. Ever the ice cream enthusiast, Bishop Bruce spotted a few posters around campus featuring his favorite treat! 🍦 His joyful presence was such a gift to our community. We look forward to welcoming him back again soon! ❤️

On a beautiful Thursday at the end of May, Saint Philomena School of the Sacred Heart welcomed Bishop Bruce Lewandowski, C.Ss.R., for his first Pastoral Visit on Cory’s Lane. 🕊️ In honor of his birthday today, we’re looking back on the joy of that memorable day and sharing a few photos from his visit.
Students and faculty eagerly prepared for his arrival by creating colorful signs and posters, many featuring Bishop Bruce’s coat of arms and chosen motto, “Because by Your Holy Cross.”
Joined by representatives of the Sisters FCJ and the Sisters RSCJ, along with our entire school community, Bishop Bruce celebrated Mass. His homily offered a simple yet powerful lesson on prayer. 🙏 His “hand-y” guide is one our students and faculty will carry with them for years to come. With the help of our student leaders, handbell ringers, and choir members, the liturgy beautifully reflected the faith and joy that are ever-present at Saint Philomena School of the Sacred Heart. 🤍
Bishop Bruce also blessed our new statue of Jesus, a lasting reminder of this meaningful day and our shared celebration of faith. We know our entire community will remember the prayers and encouragement they received during this important visit. ✝️ Stay tuned for more photos from Bishop Bruce’s tour of campus!

Our second graders loved their to West Place Animal Sanctuary! ❤️
Thank you to the second grade class at St. Philomena School in Portsmouth! These generous young animal lovers collected supplies for our farm animal rescues in March. Yesterday, we celebrated with a tour of the sanctuary and plenty of animal interactions. 🐷🐴🐓🦃
We hope to meet more young animal advocates during Spring Visitors Weekend. And remember, private tours are available for your school, classroom, or workplace.

It’s that time of year again! 🎉 Our school garden has lots of flower and vegetable seedlings that our young gardeners would like to offer to the community. All of the seeds have been planted, grown, watered, and labeled by students in electives and Mr. Wisler’s afterschool gardening activity.
Stop by the greenhouse tomorrow (before or after school) for the final day of our plant parade! ⏳ The plants are free, but Venmo and cash donations will be accepted to support future gardening endeavors at SPS. A big shout-out to Mr. Wisler for investing his time, energy, and expertise into our gardening program! 💚
P.S. Like Mr. Wisler’s amazing homemade planter? 🪴 It could be yours in our ANCHOR CELEBRATION: 2026 silent auction on Saturday, May 30!

This spring, the Class of 2026 stepped away from the classroom for a day of service with My Brother's Keeper. Working together, they made a number of furniture deliveries to families across southeastern Massachusetts. 🛋️ Our eighth-grade students lifted couches, carried tables, and offered small acts of kindness that made a meaningful difference for the families they served.
We are incredibly proud of the way the Class of 2026 continues to live out our mission by using their God-given gifts and talents to transform the world for good. ❤️

Over April break, Mrs. Karen Turner, one of our Grade 4 educators, and Mr. Brian Cordeiro, Head of School, traveled south to Miami for the annual Sacred Heart Annual Spring Network Meeting. ✈️ While they were in Florida, Mrs. Turner graduated from her two-year Aspiring Leaders program!
Over the last two years, Mrs. Turner attended virtual and in-person meetings. She also enjoyed working with a mentor from another Sacred Heart school. This commitment helped her grow as an educator and deepened her connection to the Network of Sacred Heart Schools community. 💞 We are so proud of her hard work over the last two years — congratulations, Mrs. Turner! 👏
