🧪💥 COLLISION COURSE IN THE CLOSED CIRCUIT LAB! 💥🧪
Today our fifth-grade scientists put energy into action with our Collision Course Lab! Scholars investigated what happens when objects collide and used their observations and measurements to explore energy transfer, motion, force, and mass in a real-world way.
🔬 Students sent a ball bearing down a ramp to collide with objects of different masses. They measured the mass of each object, observed what happened during the collision, and measured how far each object moved after impact. Our scientists were looking for patterns and using their data to think about some BIG questions: Where did the energy go? How did the collision cause motion? Did the mass of the object make a difference? ⚡📏💭
And there was an extra-special treat today! 💚 A few of our scholars earned the opportunity to work with AP Hayes and explain our Collision Course Lab to her themselves! These scholars consistently demonstrate leadership, responsibility, strong work habits, and positive choices in class each day. Getting to represent our lab and share their scientific thinking was a well-deserved reward for the example they continue to set. 🌟
One of my favorite parts of science is watching students move beyond simply learning vocabulary and begin thinking, questioning, investigating, collecting evidence, and explaining what they discovered like real scientists.
⚡ In the Closed Circuit Lab, the energy is ALWAYS flowing—and today it was definitely in motion! 🔋🔬💥
