The MNW on Grand Ave, 97214. Doesnt show facts. Its promises diversity. But lack the experience. My child couldnt recieve the intellectual approach. Their very standoffish when its a different races. I myself have experience this negative approach. As proof of such unfairness the school and i have some legal matters this month. They didn't show last time. Hmmm, now does this sounds like responsible people. This is my opinion. Your could worst
What kind of experience can we give children in the first plane to help prepare their minds and give a foundation for a better understanding of algebra and geometry? This was the question that Dr. Montessori and her son Mario Montessori wondered. In answer to this question, they developed the materialized abstraction of algebraic formulas for squaring and cubing, and for exploring the foundational geometry principles of Congruency, Similarity, and Equivalence.

Unlike the previous materials which isolated a particular sense, and helped children to refine each quality perceived by that sense, these materials were created to provide indirect preparation for further studies. Because these materials do not isolate a perception, these materials are sometimes referred to as the “Mixed Impressions”.

These materials, (as well as the indirect preparations for Botany and Geography) were developed a bit later than the original sensorial materials, and serve the purpose of giving a concrete, sensorial experience with a concept that will be introduced later, in the Montessori elementary.

What is the story of Thanksgiving and the National Day of Mourning?

Every year on the fourth Thursday in November a fictitious story perpetuates the myth of a peaceful alliance between Mayflower Pilgrims and the Wampanoag tribe. However, this harmony was brief and followed by the deadliest war in American history. For Native American folx, notably the Wampanoag, who survived the unprecedented mass killing, seizing of lands, and enslavement, it is a National Day of Mourning.

Organized in the 1970s by the United American Indians of New England (UAINE) is an opportunity to reflect on Native American heritage, to educate Americans about the history of Thanksgiving, and ongoing struggles of Native American tribes. The inaugural event was the first public criticism of Thanksgiving; Frank "Wamsutta" James, the leader of Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head stated, "We forfeited our country. Our lands have fallen into the hands of the aggressor. We have allowed the white man to keep us on our knees. What has happened cannot be changed, but today we must work towards a more humane America, a more Indian America, where men and nature once again are important; where the Indian values of honor, truth, and brotherhood prevail. You the white man are celebrating an anniversary. We the Wampanoags will help you celebrate in the concept of a beginning. It was the beginning of a new life for the Pilgrims. Now, 350 years later it is a beginning of a new determination for the original American: the American Indian."

Enough. Enough shootings. Enough tears. Enough hatred. Enough fear. Enough.

It's time for action and accountability. Everyone deserves to feel safe. The LGBTQ2SIA+ community deserves to feel safe. Actively dismantle the systems that perpetuate violence. Vote to change laws that regulate guns. Volunteer with local community groups. Donate to healing.

AMI USA recently shared MNW's AMI Director of Training and Program Director's piece, Work is Play, in which she references an article by the Hechinger Report: Covering Innovation & Inequality in Education which describes how children learn more effectively from guided play than from direct instruction, and highlights the difference between free play and guided play. And why guided play is so effective in early learning. This is no surprise to Montessori teachers.

At Montessori Northwest we believe that the future of Montessori education depends on increased access to educators of the global majority. Representation matters.

Since 2015, The Montessori Northwest Foundation has awarded annual scholarships to increase access to Montessori training and to expand diversity and inclusion in Montessori education. The Equity in Education Scholarship increases the representation of people of the global majority in Montessori education by encouraging applicants of color who are underrepresented in our field. Between 2015 and 2022, we provided 12 Equity in Education scholarships for BIPOC learners, totalling $32,750. We’re excited to announce that next Spring we are awarding $20,000 - five $4,000 Equity in Education Scholarships to learners in our Portland 3-6 Program beginning in July 2023. A necessary component of building community trust and cultivating a safe space includes an affinity group for Black, Indigenous and people of color. By offering 5 scholarships to one cohort, there isn’t a single student but a collective. The $4,000 Equity in Education scholarship will decrease learners' tuition by 30%. But, we don’t want to stop there. Our goal is to offer this opportunity to five learners in each cohort.

100% of Community Partnership contributions fund Equity in Education scholarships.

Partners are regularly highlighted in Montessori Northwest newsletters, and receive Community Education workshops, Job Postings, and consultations all at a discounted rate. Dedicating a percentage of your school budget to a Community Partnership with Montessori Northwest will grow the circle of Montessori educators; each year, we welcome a new cohort of students who will transform into those who will work alongside you hereafter. Please consider partnering with MNW!
