At the end of June, the IDA-SI faculty gathered on the coast, graciously hosted by Denise, for our very first retreat since launching our first cohort. We spent our time together discussing how best to support our students, reflecting on mid-course evaluations, and finalizing our approach to the integration sessions.

One of the most fascinating parts of our conversation centered on Session 10, the session that varies most across lineages, and even between instructors within the same lineage. As we worked to align on how we'd teach it within IDA-SI, a wonderful realization emerged - despite our different training backgrounds, we'd each been carrying forward remarkably similar approaches and intentions.

It was almost comical to realize how little our individual Session 10s actually differed from one another. A beautiful testament to the continuity of Structural Integration, even 50 years after Dr. Ida P. Rolf first formulated the series.

We are grateful for this time together, and for the shared thread that runs through this work across generations of practitioners. We look forward to passing this knowledge onto our students, the next generation of practitioners, as we finish the second half of the training program.

Last week our students completed session 4, and are officially halfway through their program. One of the themes that emerged during the training week was the transition from doing to being.

Many of us are conditioned to believe that our value comes from what we do, how much we accomplish, how productive we are, or how much we can offer others. The impulse to "do" is deeply woven into our culture, and it often follows us into our work as practitioners.

As our students entered Session 4 and began the Core Sessions of the Structural Integration series, they were invited into a different experience.

Rather than focusing on what technique to apply next or how to create change, students began practicing the skill of simply being present with the system in front of them. Learning to listen. Learning to witness. Learning to trust what emerges when we slow down enough to observe.

This is one of the reasons Structural Integration training extends far beyond learning techniques. It touches the biological, psychological, and social dimensions of how we relate to ourselves and others.

Interestingly, this is the same invitation we offer our clients in Session 4. As we begin working with the core of the body, we begin exploring a different relationship with awareness, one that moves from striving and doing toward presence and being.
