Thank you everyone who joined us for our “Pave the Path” event on April 22 at Columbia Edgewater Country Club. It was a wonderful celebration of Mt. Scott Learning Center and a call to action to spread the news about the life-changing work the school provides to Portland-area high school students and families.

Guests enjoyed cocktails, delicious appetizers and dessert, a silent auction, and an inspiring program (including an emotional opening video) – all in the backdrop of one of the Northwest’s most historic and premier country clubs.

Thank you to everyone who came together: donors/supporters, board members, volunteers, event sponsors, our new friends, staff, graduates, and parents. We’re grateful to each of you for showing up and being part of our community.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but for our graduates at Mt. Scott Learning Centers these photos represent a thousand obstacles overcome.

High school graduation is a massive milestone, and for many of our students, the journey to it has required incredible grit, resilience, and heart. Hard work of this kind deserves to be celebrated in style!

That’s why every year, we make sure our seniors have the chance to step in front of a lens for professional senior portraits. By providing a professional photographer, we want to ensure every student has a high-quality keepsake of this achievement.

Seeing their smiles (and maybe a few proud tears) during these sessions is one of our favorite traditions.

Discover why high school students like these discover hope, feel safe, and experience success each year at Mt. Scott Learning Center in SE Portland.

We learned many years ago the best way to describe what Mt. Scott Learning Center is all about is through our students’ personal stories of discovering hope, feeling safe, and experiencing success — sometimes for the first real time in their lives.

Many of those stories are shared each March during our annual video interviews with graduating seniors. Content from this year’s interviews will help produce two videos to be shown at our high school’s graduation ceremony in June. The event showcases each of our graduates and their path to graduation.

Are you or someone you know looking for a school that:

• Takes the time to get to know each student and recognize the value they add to our community?
• Honors different learning styles by providing multiple ways for students to engage and show progress?
• Emphasizes small class sizes with lots of teacher attention?
• Prepares students for life success with specialized college and career planning?

At Mt. Scott Learning Center, students will be seen. They will be known. And they will be successful.

In middle school, Shirley began battling anxiety and depression amid struggles she was experiencing outside of school. Her challenges continued when she started attending a large, traditional high school, where she felt lost, unnoticed, and insignificant.

But at Mt. Scott Learning Center’s high school, Shirley discovered hope.

“I felt very welcomed immediately,” remembers Shirley. “I felt like I could talk to the staff and I would not be judged for my past or for what I was going through. I no longer felt like I didn’t matter.”

Fast forward a couple years later and Shirley was graduating a year early with a four-year college scholarship and a goal of becoming a nurse.

“I chose nursing because it’s an opportunity for me to help others and help them feel safe,” said Shirley. “That’s pretty much what Mt. Scott made me feel like: safe and noticed.”
