Although we are sharing late due to a cold last week, we prayed and said the mourners Kaddish on Oct 7th for those who lost their lives and endured trauma. We will never forget.

Today, we pause to remember October 7, 2023—a day that forever changed the Jewish community and the world.

We remember the lives lost, honor the strength of survivors and their families, and hold close the hostages and all those impacted by the ongoing pain and uncertainty that followed. We also recognize the fear, grief, and rising antisemitism that many in our community have experienced since that day.

At the Jewish Community Alliance of Southern Maine, we remain committed to our mission of building a strong, connected, and resilient Jewish community. We believe that gathering together, supporting one another, learning, and standing up for one another are acts of hope.

In that spirit, we invite you to join us for a screening of Holding Liat this evening at the JCA.

The award-winning documentary follows the aftermath of the kidnapping of Liat Beinin Atzili and her husband, Aviv Atzili, from their home on a kibbutz near the Gaza border. Through the multifaceted experiences of their family, the film explores what it means to love your country, question your government, fear for someone you love, wrestle with what you believe, and hold onto nuance in a world that demands certainty.

This screening offers an opportunity to gather, reflect, and engage in meaningful conversation together.

In moments of challenge, community matters. Every conversation, every gathering, every act of kindness, and every connection helps remind us that we are not alone.

May we continue to work toward a future rooted in peace, safety, compassion, and understanding.

We remember. We stand together. We remain connected.

Join us for Holding Liat at the JCA. October 7 | 5PM | JCA https://mainejewish.app.neoncrm.com/nx/portal/neonevents/events?path=%2Fportal%2Fevents%2F58533

I want to thank Adam Arens at Subaru for his help with assisting me in purchasing 2 new ford transit vans for Levey Day School this August. What a guy!

Adam, so far, we are serving 87 families in our first semester of the new rec program. We are so grateful 🙏

I can’t wait to contact you again soon and double our families. Watch us grow 🌻

And a special thanks to the helpers pictured below who have worked all summer helping me clean, organize, and move what needed to be done to start this school year. Mensches.
