Hidden Ladder TOUR Mookie the van took us from Maine to the West Coast on an art, music, and game tour highlighted by a Tedx Talk in Arcata, California. The first issue of Hidden Ladder Press was spread around the country during this two month tour.

Hello friends of the MPC,

It has been a long time since we have issued any updates, and for that we offer an apology. The ending of our last location was both unexpected and hard, not only for not only the organizers, but also the community that was using the space.

However, talks are starting up again about what the members of the MPC can do to support our community without a current physical space. Stay tuned for more details on this soon!

Hidden Ladder Collective just finished 12 large scale paintings on canvas at our 12 hour painting marathon yesterday. We invited anyone walking by on Congress Street to join us. They are all for sale but it is first come, first serve so if you see one you want make sure to comment before someone else does! All profits go towards our October Tour during which we will be doing community art projects like this all across the country.

On July 16th, Hidden Ladder Collective painted twelve 6 foot canvases on the streets of Portland, Maine over the course of twelve hours. We welcomed the public to join in the collaboration. To raise funds for future Hidden Ladder projects, we are auctioning off nine and raffling off one of the paintings created. The link to the auction is posted below.

Here is a new article about our current move. While there are definitely inconsistencies in the real story, it is well written, and we thank the reporter for his interest in the situation, and the scope on difficulties in renting in Portland. Unfortunately for us, while we sought to not make anyone in particular look bad, the same was not, and has not been true of others.

For clarification, when we moved into the space on Market Street, we were told that we could have any type of event that we wanted, including music events. The space was described as "an open canvas". Down the line, when we were given guidelines to deal with the fact that this was not, indeed true, we did our best to adhere to them. Many of you who attended events at the Center will remember our request that anybody going outside to please refrain from "loitering" out front, and instead take a walk around the block.

There is a much larger issue going on in Portland than the Meg Perry Center not being able to find space. We stand in solidarity with all of the small businesses, low-income wage earners, single parents, refugees, and immigrants who have a similiar struggle to find and maintain decent space, while navigating this climate of gentrification in our city.

We will continue to Make Positive Change, so keep an eye out for our volunteer projects and actions!! Events that normally would be booked in our space will be relocated to either A Space for Grace or CTN 5!
