This video features Iron Violet, often called the crown jewel of the series. You can see it here both as a dry pigment and milled into oil color.
Each spec of pigment was painstakingly harvested from the Mississippi & Ohio Rivers through a process designed to purify water polluted by mining runoff. As the contaminated water is treated, oxidized metals are removed, leaving behind clean water and non-toxic iron oxide pigments. The water is returned to the river, restored. The pigments take on a new life as paint, carrying the memory of place and process into a new form.
As a colorhouse that promises to be kind to artists and the environment, turning this pigment into paint was something we felt both compelled and honored to do.

Pink has a rich and complex history in both art and culture. It’s a color that evokes strong reactions—some love it, others hate it—and both sides have valid reasons. Though it has been misused, pink has also been a force for change, proving itself to be a powerful color, like it or not!
