"Network" is more than a buzzword. At Educate Maine, we consider our "network" to be the greater than the sum of its parts--it's the amazing cohort of businesses, educators and nonprofits whose work aligns with ours, and upon whom our mission depends! This Thankful Thursday, we'd like to shout out Let's Get Ready. A national to-and-through college success program, Let's Get Ready is sponsoring our annual Symposium for the second year in a row, and will be presenting on our theme of Powerful Partnerships. All the more reason to sign up for the year's premier event. Registration opening soon!
(And if you know a high school student who would benefit from a coaching program as they prepare for and enter higher education, look into Let's Get Ready. They are doing powerful work!)

Join us as we kick off a year of Arts Learning Exchanges! Dynamic half-day regional gatherings will bring together people from across the arts learning ecosystem-teachers, working artists, teaching artists and others--for Ignite-style conversations and partnership building.

The first session is a unique opportunity to visit one of Maine's premier arts venues to convene with other arts educators, school administrators, teaching artists and community organizations.
Register now for this opportunity at the Ogunquit Museum of American Art!

Teach Maine Tuesday is just one day, so it's challenging to sum up the amazing whole week Julia Edwards: 2026 Maine Teacher of the Year had in Washington! As part of the National Teachers of the Year program, Julia and her counterparts spent days meeting with lawmakers, touring the Capitol and other sites, and honing their advocacy skills. One of the best moments? When Julia ran into Angus King staffer Hig Sevigny, a Poland Regional High School and Colby College alumna! "It was such a joy to connect with Hig after her PRHS Band years," Julia said. "She's doing a great job on the Hill!"
More proof, if we needed it, that teaching is about connection. 🙂

Dear everyone who loves their jobs in Maine: Have you been looking for a way to give back? What if we told you there's an opportunity to support young people in your community AND highlight your industry? Our friends at Junior Achievement have had more than 130 requests for learning experiences this year, and they are looking for volunteers. You won't be disappointed--this is a terrific program! Choose the grade-level, learning experience, and school you want to volunteer in. This Thankful Thursday, we're going big! Statewide, if you will. Educate Maine is a business-led organization, and today we're leaning in to our gratitude for Maine's business community, which partners with us across all of our programs and in multiple ways. Whether it's supporting events from Symposium to the Golf Classic, serving on our Board of Directors, hosting interns and apprenticeship programs, or showing up in myriad ways for our teachers, businesses large and small make our work successful. Together, we're making a bright future possible for all Maine people.

Great internships don't just "happen"--even though lots of companies make it look easy! This Workforce Wednesday, we're shouting out the super intern coordinators across Maine. They do everything from designing internship work to onboarding to staying in touch post-internship, and help cement those relationships that bring interns back to Maine when they are ready to start their career. This week Educate Maine hosted an intern coordinator event at Mast Landing in Freeport, featuring networking, catch-ups and brainstorming. A perfect rainbow capped off the evening!

Happy Teach Maine Tuesday! This week we're excited to be part of the national conversation around computer science learning and AI -- particularly in the elementary grades. Teachers can make an impactful difference in how we harness the power of computer learning for the good of all. Angela Oechslie, Educate Maine's Director of STEM Pathways and Innovation, is at Boot Up, a national, invitation-only conference tackling the next big questions for educators. Thanks to organizers and the beautiful new Obama Presidential Center, which is hosting.

The Omicron class of Education Leaders Experience is off and running! Last week they explored Washington County, known for its rugged coastline, natural beauty and rural character--and one of the state's least populated counties. The key economic drivers include fishing, particularly lobster and other shellfish industries, aquaculture, blueberry farming (as Washington County is home to the largest blueberry harvest in the U.S.), and tourism, especially eco-tourism. Forestry and wood products also contribute to the economy, while small-scale agriculture and emerging renewable energy projects are growing sectors. Among the businesses Omicron leaders visited were the Maine Wild Blueberry Co., the Downeast Institute, , and the Cobscook Institute. And of course, no visit this far Down East would be complete without a stop at iconic West Quoddy Head Light!

Workforce Wednesday happens every week--but this week we have something extra-special to celebrate. Let's hear it for CSCLE: Computer Science Connected Learning Experience! It's an opportunity for educators to connect with businesses across Maine, and learn how CS and innovative thinking can propel their students into satisfying careers. This week's CSCLE class toured Northern Maine, learning, networking, and yes, having a bit of fun!
