Join us on Sunday, September 22, for a practical demonstration on low-cost mushroom cultivation with mushroom expert Jordan Weiss. This workshop will introduce you to sustainable, low-tech methods for growing gourmet and medicinal mushrooms on woodchips using Practically Free Resources (PFRs). Whether you're new to mushroom cultivation or looking to refine your skills, you'll gain valuable insights into:
🍄 Sourcing and Identifying Woodchips: Learn how to find and select the best woodchips for mushroom cultivation, often available for free or at a low cost.
🍄 Exploring Mushroom Varieties: Discover which types of mushrooms thrive on woodchips, from gourmet varieties like shiitakes to medicinal options.
🍄 Creating Mother Patches: Master the technique of creating 'Mother Patches'—the foundation for expanding your mushroom-growing efforts sustainably and efficiently.
About the Instructor:
Jordan Weiss's fascination with mushrooms began in 1978 after reading Paul Stamets' first book, Psilocybe Mushrooms and Their Allies. This initial spark led him on a lifelong journey of self-education through reading books and academic publications, joining a mushroom society, and spending countless hours foraging in fields and forests. Jordan was an active member of the Oregon Mycological Society for thirteen years, where he taught cultivation workshops and deepened his expertise.
Since 2004, Jordan has been sharing his knowledge of low-tech mushroom cultivation and identification, using permaculture-based methods that make mushroom growing accessible to everyone. He has produced educational brochures and calendars to further spread his passion for fungi. Currently, Jordan is working on What the Mushrooms Told Me, a handbook dedicated to the most current, quickest, and easiest ways to engage with mycology.
Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from an expert and connect with fellow enthusiasts. Mark your calendars and get ready to dive into the world of fungi!

Sunday, 6/9 !
During medieval times scores of women were accused of practicing witchcraft and were burned at the stake. Many of these women were local healers and herbalists, which the patriarchal medical elites despised as competitors.
Among the magical practices of these women, scholars have uncovered a kind of entheogenism (i.e., using psych*delics for spiritual reasons) pursued using ointments containing mind-altering plants.
Over the centuries, the lore of the witches’ ointment grew—so much so that it becomes difficult to tease fact from fiction.
Join psych*delic historian, witch, and author of The Witches’ Ointment, Tom Hatsis, as he moves through the plant medicines these women used through examining medieval trial records, medical reports, eye-witness testimonies, and other primary source materials that have been overlooked by historians. In this talk we will dive deep into the heart of medieval witchcraft and uncover the various psych*delic experiences that common people sought.
Topics discussed:
🌿The various plants used and surviving recipes for the ointments.
⛤The specific pagan beliefs tied to these experiences.
🍄What a medieval psych*delic experience looked like.
✝️ How Church law changed over time to see wise-women and other healers as enemies of society.
⛪How theologians created the idea of the Satanic Witch.
🧹Why this history had been largely ignored by the larger Neo-Pagan and Witchcraft communities in the past... and more!
Speaker Bio:
Tom Hatsis is the author of The Witches’ Ointment (2015); Psy che delic Mystery Traditions (2018); Micro dosing Magic (2018), and L S D: The Wonder Child (2021). He has appeared on the GaiamTV shows Beyond Belief with George Noory, Psyche de lica, and Open Minds with Regina Meredith, and been published in Psy che delic Press U.K. and the Journal of Psy che delic Studies. He directs the Psanctum Education Center, hosts the weekly Psanctum Open Mic, and curates the Psanctum Psy che delic Library.
