Every year, we have the pleasure of highlighting a few members of Maine Law’s graduating class. The truth is, every single graduate has a story worth telling, and we wish we could share them all. One thing is certain: keep your eye on Maine Law graduates. They go on to do remarkable things across Maine, throughout the country, and even on the international stage.

For Ryan Morse ’26, Maine Law became a place to chart his own path. What began as an interest in trust taxation and transactional work evolved into a passion for bankruptcy law, shaped by hands-on experiences including an externship with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maine and participation in the inaugural semester of the Business & Law Clinic.

Along the way, Morse discovered not only a new professional direction but also the importance of mentorship, community, and understanding the people behind every legal issue.

“At Maine Law, you just have to ask, and you will receive,” he said.

After graduation, Morse will clerk with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court before joining Murray, Plumb & Murray in Portland.

When Natalie Jump ’26 came to Maine Law, she thought her future was firmly rooted in environmental policy. But through experiences like the Rural Practice Clinic in Fort Kent, work with the Maine Law Review, and courtroom advocacy opportunities, she discovered a much broader vision of what it means to practice law.

“You get this sense that the law is known and predictable, but people are not,” Jump said. “That’s where the complexity of practicing lies.” After graduation, Jump will clerk at the Kennebec County Superior Court before joining Perkins Thompson as an associate.

📈 A pioneering partnership within the University of Maine System is growing Maine’s workforce and economy by providing FREE support to small businesses while preparing the future entrepreneurial and attorney workforce.

The University of Maine School of Law and the Maine Business School launched the new Business & Law Clinic this semester. Thought to be the first of its kind in the nation, the collaborative clinic is supported by and located at the Maine Graduate & Professional Center, University of Maine System and funded through the generosity of the Harold Alfond Foundation through UMS TRANSFORMS.

During the clinic's inaugural semester, 8 law and graduate business students gained real-world experience by providing legal and business development services to emerging and expanding businesses across the state that lacked the resources to hire consultants and private attorneys.

It’s just the latest example of how Maine's public universities are working together across campuses and disciplines to:
✅prepare an innovative workforce,
✅support the state's small businesses make and save money,
✅create new jobs and products, and
✅accelerate economic growth.

Thanks to the Portland Press Herald for showcasing the clinic and its incredible early impact in helping grow Maine's workforce and small business economy.

A new, free clinic run by UMaine's business school and the state's public law school advised 17 small companies this spring. It already has a waiting list.

Last week, Staff Attorney and Immigration Law Teaching Fellow Bri Zhuang joined hundreds of immigration attorneys from around the country in Washington, D.C. for the 2026 American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) National Day of Action. Zhuang served as the delegate from Maine for AILA’s New England Chapter, speaking with the offices of Senator Angus King, Senator Susan Collins, and Representative Chellie Pingree on Capitol Hill. In these small group meetings, Zhuang shared experiences and anecdotes from their and Student Attorneys’ work in the Refugee and Human Rights Clinic to keep our Congressional representatives informed of what is happening on the ground in Maine.

Closing the Justice Gap in Maine

Yesterday, the Clinics at Maine Law were honored to participate in Access to Justice Day at the Hall of Flags in the State House!

We joined forces with dedicated lawyers, advocates, and community members from across the state to advocate for a critical cause: increased funding for civil legal aid. Access to justice should never be determined by what you can afford, and this funding is vital to helping low-income Maine residents secure the legal assistance they need and deserve.

A big shoutout to our amazing Maine Law representatives who showed up to make their voices heard and champion this cause: Alicia Rea '24, Sam Anderson '27 and Sanchita Mukherjee '21
