Join the Portland Board of Public Education for a series of Community & Staff Engagement events in October on topics of interest to the PPS community. Three engagement sessions are slated for Thursday, Oct. 15. Two are virtual—one at noon for the community and one just for staff at 4 p.m.. A third Oct. 15 in-person session for the community will be at 6 p.m. at Rowe Elementary School. Then, on Tuesday, Oct. 20, a fourth session, in person and for the whole community, will be at 6 p.m. at Lincoln Middle School. In September, Hearts of Pine players wore special pre-match jerseys designed by students at King Middle School! Later, the signed player jerseys were auctioned off to support the return of jersey-design programming in Portland for the school year ahead. Hearts of Pine and hummel celebrated the culmination of their first Design FC afterschool program, which took place at King over the past school year. Over 12 weeks, students developed jersey concepts reflecting their own stories and values. Building on the design skills, ideas and storytelling they explored throughout the program, the students created a jersey inspired by the city and state they call home. PPS families and students: Tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 8, you are invited to a Parent University titled: "Understanding College Admissions." This informative event—to be held from 6-7:30pm at the Portland High School Auditorium—is designed to assist high school students, parents and guardians in understanding and planning for the different college options after high school. It will be led by PPS high school counselors. We hope to see everyone there!

Please take a few minutes to complete your family’s Household Income Data Form. The deadline has been extended to Sunday, Oct. 18, to ensure we get 100% participation! It was sent to you on Sunday, September 6, through ReachMyTeach. This form matters more than ever this year. Our district worked with lawmakers in Augusta to change how Maine funds schools, and the information families give on this form now counts twice in the state funding formula. If every family completes it, our schools could receive millions of dollars in additional state funding next year.
