On Monday, August 24th, the Deering High School staff gathered in the cafeteria to launch the new school year on a strong, positive note, centered on community, professionalism, and fresh beginnings. As part of a full day of professional development, Principal Ayala welcomed staff and shared a vision focused on clarity, consistency, and connection.
During the gathering, Assistant Principal Frederick presented the traditional Deering Star to 9th grade team lead Meghan Donnelly, recognizing her leadership of the 9th grade team and her ongoing support for students over the past several years.
We are so happy to expand our team and welcome all of our new staff members to the Ramily! Please join us in greeting Principal Aris Ayala Cruz, Assistant Principal Ilunga Mutombo, 10th/12th Grade Counselor (A-K) Baret Pinyoun, 9th/11th Grade Counselor (A-K) Catherine Siegel, Resource and Breathe Special Ed. Coordinator Ellen Flores, Science Teacher Ethan Holt, Math Teacher Ben Lucki, Music Teacher Caleb Thurston, FLS Teacher Chris Diorio (transitioning from long-term sub), Ed Tech (FA) Chris Hayday, Ed Tech (Breathe) Noah Kerrigan, Ed Tech (FA) Ibombi Luvunga, and JMG Teacher Kiley Briand. We are glad to have each of them with us this year.
For the remainder of the week, staff will be focused on final preparations for the school year, including hosting the 9th Grade Welcome Night on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., meeting with newly enrolled students, and finalizing classroom setups.
We look forward to welcoming all of our students back on August 31st!

Deering High School staff gathered in the café as the school year drew to a close, coming together for a family-style potluck filled with an abundance of wonderful homemade dishes. This afternoon of celebration and reflection provided the perfect opportunity to honor and say goodbye to several staff members who are retiring or moving on to new opportunities. The community shared fond farewells with a beloved member of the café crew, as well as Mr. Andrew Miller and Ms. Nirmala Young from the science department, and extended best wishes to Ms. Mel Moran for her next adventure. The school counseling team bid a special farewell to Mr. Shawn Kennedy, while the specialized services department celebrated the retirement of Ms. Janice Tevanian, recognizing how much she has helped countless students. Heartfelt goodbyes were also shared with Ms. Mary Wallace, celebrating her impactful years as an educator in the ESOL department.
