Hi all!
It's been a while.
I would like to jump back into community movement this SEPTEMBER, and teach outdoor pop-ups in and around Bishop.

I am looking for spaces I can teach yoga (grassy or soft, shaded), and places I can teach hip hop/house/heels (paved, shaded).

I've assessed some spots in public parks and quiet parking lots that could work fine, but please PM me if you know of good spots -- especially, private ones that might be free right now!

So ready to move with y'all again. Hope you're staying sane and shaking it out.

This Independence Day, let's switch it up a bit.
Direct our thoughts and hearts toward the urgent work we ALL must do to bring about EQUITY and FREEDOM for everyone.

Come flow, with intention: Notice how you take up space and experience privilege. Explore the concept of freedom in your own body. And expand your awareness to ignite change.

Skill in Action Home Retreat — Michelle Johnson 06/06/2020

I'm currently taking a step back from teaching to do work -- to dive in deep, research, ask difficult questions, have uncomfortable conversations, and then act accordingly to promote equity and justice. I am taking time to learn and take clear steps toward being a better ally to BIPOC. To practice Karma yoga: skillful action in the most difficult times.

I'd like to radicalize my teaching to reflect my own convictions:
that all people deserve to move through space freely, without fear, and in love; that all bodies deserve not just respect, but celebration; and that we live in a poisoned world wherein our thoughts and systems are tainted by judgment, hate and greed, and we need to disentangle, and investigate beyond the norm, and this is going to be an arduous process that challenges a lot of our preconceived notions of self.

I recognize our world is far from balanced. That our system/culture is inherently racist, oppressive, destructive, and there is much work to be done yet. I recognize that I, as a white woman, and as a teacher of dance and yoga, have a specific role in all this (my Dharma), and it involves continually showing up; speaking out; and holding other privileged bodies accountable; and radicalizing my teaching so that all feel welcome, always, and seen, always, and heard, always.

For other teachers/yoga practitioners out there looking for ways to incorporate social justice work into your instruction and practice, hold yourself accountable, build community in these isolating times, and follow the lead of BIPOC -- consider joining me for this online retreat led by Michelle Johnson (yoga teacher, social justice activist, anti-racist trainer, and author of Skill in Action: Radicalizing Your Yoga Practice to Create a Just World).
