Jay County Jr-Sr High School was buzzing with excitement as students explored future career paths at this spring's Career Fair! Representatives from a wide range of industries took time to share their knowledge, experiences, and opportunities with our students.

From hands-on demonstrations to meaningful conversations about internships, certifications, college pathways, and skilled trades, students gained valuable insight into what their futures can hold. It was incredible to see so many students asking questions, making connections, and stepping outside their comfort zones.

These opportunities align with Jay County High Jay County Jr-Sr High School's goals of helping students graduate with career ready skills. This also helps align students with meaningful employment opportunities for post high school success.

We would like to recognize the cooperation and involvement from the JCHS teachers, CTE department and administrators for allowing this to happen. Thank you for helping enable this to happen and be successful! We would also like to thank the Area 18 Career and Technical Education Cooperative , Jay County Chamber of Commerce and Jay County Development Corp for coming and checking out the Career Fair!

Jay County Manufacturing and Engineering are incredibly proud of the accomplishments of PLTW Engineering student Brennan Chrisman! Brennan will represent the program well next in year college, at whatever university is fortunate enough to have him. He has exceled in all of his courses throughout his high school career in the CTE hall.

We are thrilled to announce that JC Jr.-Sr. High senior Brennan Chrisman, the son of Brian and Laurie Chrisman, has been named a National Merit Scholarship Program finalist! Approximately 1.3 million students take the PSAT/NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) each year. Of these, 16,000 students across the U.S. are named semifinalists. Semifinalists represent the highest-scoring students within their state. After notification, semifinalists complete an application, which must include "a record of consistently very high academic performance in all of grades 9 through 12 and in any college coursework taken"; evidence of having taken "the SAT or ACT and [earning] scores that confirm the PSAT/NMSQT performance that resulted in Semifinalist standing"; and the completion of an essay. Based on Brennan's impressive application, he was selected as one of 15,000 finalists, representing approximately 1% of the students who take the test. As a finalist, Brennan will now be considered for a National Merit Scholarship. Please join us in congratulating Brennan on this exceptional and highly prestigious achievement. Brennan, we are proud of you!

We were able to take our seniors in the Advanced Manufacturing pathway to FCC INDIANA this afternoon. Randy and his crew took the seniors on a great tour, highlighting different employment opportunities. These opportunities varied from manufacturing, engineering, maintenance and beyond.

We are fortunate to have great industry partners here. It’s nice to be able to highlight the variety of employment opportunities locally. Thank you to all the associates that made the visit today great.

Happy Manufacturing Day!

Thanks to all the manufacturing industry partners that continually help the students of Jay County Jr-Sr High School. Their commitment to the future workforce is greatly appreciated and through their partnerships many JCHS grads have landed high paying, in demand, jobs after graduation.

School pride for homecoming week!

Sam Westgerdes and Stan Muhlenkamp completed phenomenal file conversions of the school’s 2 primary logos.

In conjunction with the manufacturing classes, the files have been getting printed and assembled throughout the week.

Jay County Advanced Manufacturing and Mr. Love's Engineering courses completed fire extinguisher training in thanks to Firefighter Hudson and Firefighter Guggenbiller, along with some special help from Fire Dog Huey.

Students completed a training module on fires, fire extinguishers and general fire safety. Students then were able to apply their skills to hands on training today and extinguish a live fire.

Mr. Fritze and Mr. Goldsworthy's 2nd period classes were able to join and watch the demonstration/activity as well. This was a great time to discuss fire safety with the junior high students.

We are proud to bring real life, hands on, demonstrations to our students when it comes to safety and having skills that can potentially pay off or save a life in the future.

Thank you to City of Portland Fire Department for partnering with us to help train our students in fire extinguishers.

***Students were under direct supervision with safety protocols in place to ensure student safety. All participants were required to have a permission slip from home. No junior high students participated in the hands on training, they just observed.***

As we head into summer, we need to highlight the senior Engineering Design and Development Capstone class at Jay County Jr-Sr High School for their completion of their senior design project.

Austyn LeMaster and Trenten Hamilton were tasked with creating a solution to a real world problem. Their problem was that City of Portland Fire Department needed more drying capabilities for their crucial turnout gear. They offer the washer and dryer up to other departments as well, so some days they run out of space.

These students designed, tested, iterated and built their design. We are beyond proud of the result. It exceeded the expectations!

Thank you to the students, parents, other teachers and Portland Fire Department for their efforts, cooperation and trust that these seniors would deliver.

These students will do great things in life, good luck in your college and further careers!

As school wraps up, we want to highlight some of the lab equipment that students get to learn how use and then take home with them at the end of the year for application at home and in the real world.

Students complete Arduino activities throughout the school year, learning about microcontrollers, sensors and programming. Students also learn how to solder through various projects and activities that they’ve already taken home.

Congrats to these students as they’ve gotten the entry level training in all of these tools and supplies.

The Industrial Maintenance Fundamentals (senior level) class are closing in on finishing their Yellow Level Certification at The John Jay Center for Learning.

These students are completing the first two levels of the Industrial Maintenance Program at John Jay. These are locally recognized certifications that help students be highly employable after they graduate from Jay County Jr-Sr High School.

Students interested in this pathway, should make sure to speak with their counselor or Mr. Love to make sure they take the right classes so they can take this course as a senior. Students who participate and complete this pathway are highly employable and go on to find valuable and rewarding careers after high school.
