Drop-In History for Curious Minds
I'm excited to share a new class I've added for 10 to 12 year old students. I've designed it to be a fun way to learn a little history in a small-group reading and discussion setting. Right now it's available on Thursdays, starting on January 21 on the Outschool platform (https://outschool.com/classes/drop-in-history-for-curious-minds-an-ongoing-class-of-us-history-and-civics-OEeUpoRx?sectionUid=3f4c060e-2b12-4c82-9b66-05963a668a19&showDetails=true). I'll be adding more sections in the future, and, of course, let me know if you'd like me offer private sessions for one or small groups.

As a fresh start for the new year, I have updated my drop-in classes featuring weekly stories about America's past. I have added new books, and I divided the collections into two groups: pre- and post-20th century. You can sign up for either (or both) of these ongoing classes through the Outschool platform (www.outschool.com). I also offer private classes to individuals or learning groups. Please get in touch if you'd like more information about these opportunities. I'm always happy to hear from you!

Dear Friends,
As this crazy year is coming to an end, I hope you are all finding comfort in this season of love and lights. I am looking ahead to the coming year--and especially winter classes. I love the sense of starting fresh each school session.

In January I will be offering a full slate of classes for a variety of age groups. Here are some highlights:
**hiSTORY of the United States for Young Citizens--where kids 6-9 years old join me for a weekly story about an historical event, person, or perspective, along with some discussion and other fun.
**a newly added follow-up class called hiSTORY of the U.S. for Young Citizens: More Stories about the Past--also for 6-9 year olds, with the same format as the first class, but with new books and stories.
**Civics for Young Citizens--a 4-session introduction to the U.S. government system and the role of citizens within it for students ages 10-14. I also offer a 2-session course on our Electoral College system and have plans for another on the practice of Gerrymandering.
**I am most excited to start offering Creating A More Just Society for students 13-17, which draws on my years of experience teaching introductory classes on the topic. Our biweekly meetings will focus on a current event, with some context provided by me and discussion among the group.
**Finally, I have created a similar course for 10-12 year olds that meets once each week and is geared more towards age-appropriate texts and discussions of figures like Abigail Adams, Crispus Attucks, and immigrant movements through Angel Island off the coast of California.

I teach these courses using the Outschool platform (www.outschool.com), but I'm also available for private sessions with individuals or learning groups. I'll be happy to talk with you about these opportunities if you contact me directly at [email protected].

I'd love to hear your ideas, too, for classes you might like to see in the future. Contact me if you'd like to talk more. You can post here, or through my email ([email protected]).

Take care,
Dr. Cheryl

Dear Friends,
I am now offering small-group online classes on a variety of topics and for different age groups. I would love the opportunity to teach and learn with any kids that are interested in joining me. Look for individual postings with descriptions and details for each of my classes. So far they all have a social studies/history element to them. I am also available for tutoring one-on-one or in small groups/pods. Let me know if you have any suggestions or requests for other offerings! Cheryl
