Tips for Families and Friends 📓

As your Greyhound begins their classes at ENMU this week, it is important to help them adjust from high school classes to collegiate coursework.

Here are some helpful hints for you to encourage them to follow:
• Attendance is an important part of academic success. Missing only a
few classes can put your Greyhound behind and professors will notice if
they are absent.
• Each course provides a syllabus (semester outline of course readings, assignment/project due dates and examination dates) to be used as a guide throughout the semester. The syllabus will typically be reviewed in the first class but it is up to your Greyhound to manage what is expected throughout the semester based on the syllabus as the professor may or may not reference the syllabus again.
• Professors do not have to accept late assignments or projects.
• An entire semester’s grade may just be made up of two or three big tests/projects.

Tips for Greyhound Families and Friends 📓

Sending off your Greyhound to their first semester at ENMU soon? Here are some ways to help them excel:

• Listen to their fears and aspirations; keep an open mind.
• Help them take initiative and plan ahead.
• Be familiar with campus resources so you can suggest places they can find help.
• Send your Greyhound notes or care packages periodically during their time
away from home.
• Encourage them to understand many victories come through learning from
past mistakes.
• Avoid “taking care of everything” and cheer on your Greyhound as they make decisions in navigating difficult situations.
• Stay positive and encourage open communication.
• Urge your Greyhound to connect with an upperclassman, staff member, faculty
member, or another mentor.
