Christ For Kids Children develop and grow spiritually, emotionally, socially, intellectually, and physically under the loving care of our dedicated staff.

Christ for Kids Childcare Center is a ministry of St. Michael Lutheran Church and School. It provides a Christian setting for young children to develop and grow spiritually, emotionally, socially, intellectually and physically. Certified teachers lead each class using a mulit-sensory approach and cross-curricular activities designed to help children develop at their own pace in a loving and caring

environment. Frequent newsletters keep parents informed of classrooms themes, events, and volunteer opportunities. CFK is not a co-op, parents are not required to volunteer in the classroom. We place Christ at the center of our program and show respect for each child's individuality and their God-given gifts. We believe children learn best through play and encourage reasoning, questioning, and experimenting while providing hands-on materials for learning. We provide age appropriate schedules that balance free choice time with structured time as well as active play with quiet time. The childcare center is open Monday-Friday 6:30-6:00 pm, 50 weeks a year. Students enrolled in K-8 school or preschool and childcare will be escorted to and from their classes at the appropriate time.

The Lord willing, St. Michael Lutheran School and Christ for Kids Childcare Center will be open regular business hours on Friday, May 10. We will try to have as normal of a Friday as possible. St. Michael now has power. Please make your own decision about coming based upon your location and individual situation. I know that many residential streets are still closed, but all major roads are operational. You may have to consider alternative routes to get to school. There will be no bus service for students who normally ride the bus at the end of the day as Portage Public Schools has decided to cancel school again on Friday.

Despite the beautiful weather today, there is much clean up yet to do in Portage. The campus at St. Michael still has no power and there are many large trees and powerlines still to be dealt with in residential areas. For the safety of our school families, St. Michael Lutheran School (all grades) and Christ for Kids Childcare Center will again be closed on Thursday, May 9.

The PK-1st grade music concert that was schedule for Thursday has been rescheduled for next Thursday, May 16 at 1:00 & 6:30 pm. Please make note.

Our prayers go out to those who have suffered from this tragic weather event and hopefully we will have as normal a day as possible on Friday.

Dear SMLS & CFK Families,

Due to the extensive storm damage in the City of Portage, St. Michael Lutheran School (all grades) and Christ for Kids Childcare Center will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, May 8, 2024. We will share more about Thursday once we learn more tomorrow about power and damage clean up. We pray that everyone is safe!
