Shaping the Kalamazoo skyline before graduation!

Through our Work-Based Learning Capstone program, Loy Norrix High School graduate Caleb Pingel worked on the new downtown Kalamazoo arena with Ritsema Associates.

"It's going to be super cool to come back ten, 15 years later and be like, wow, I was a part of this," Caleb said.

"Being in her class has helped a lot with my child’s social anxiety." 💙

Preschool can be a powerful first step in helping children build confidence, friendships, and independence. One family shared how their child's experience in Ms. Hill's classroom helped ease social anxiety and made the transition to school a positive one.

"She gave a lot of reassurance that my child would be okay and do good," they shared. "She’s made this experience super easy for us."
With caring teachers, supportive classrooms, and opportunities to learn alongside peers, preschool helps children develop the confidence and social-emotional skills they need to thrive.

When life gives you lemons, you learn how to run a business! Happy National Lemonade Day! 🍋✨

Over the summer, we helped facilitate Lemonade Days at partner elementary schools across Kalamazoo County. Our amazing young entrepreneurs didn't just sell drinks. They ran their own stands, crafted unique recipes, and mastered the art of budgeting and supply management to ensure they didn't run out of stock.

A huge thank you to all of our entrepreneurs, school partners, and community members for helping make this year's Lemonade Days a sweet success!

This We Are Wednesday, we’re shining a well-deserved spotlight on Amanda Sutherland!

As our Administrator of Youth Services, Amanda has spent the last 9 years dedicating her energy, heart, and leadership to KRESA. Leading a fantastic team of 14 across four specialized programs—Outreach-Enrollment, Continuous Improvement, Youth Coaching, and MyCITY—Amanda helps learners ages 14–24 discover their career pathways.

Amanda loves witnessing the resilience and ambition of the young people she serves, and her absolute favorite day of the year is celebrating them at the annual Outstanding Achievement Awards.

A fun fact that many people don't know is that her team actually serves youth across four counties, acting as a core partner of Michigan Works Southwest, in Kalamazoo, Branch, Calhoun, and St. Joseph counties!

When she’s not helping local learners thrive, Amanda is probably stacking tiles or watering her jungle. She went from a beginner to absolutely obsessed with Mahjong last year and started the West Michigan Mahjong Club. She is also currently keeping over 100 houseplants alive and well!

🌟 Work-Based Learning Spotlight: Travis 🌟

Through KRESA's Work-Based Learning program at Meijer, Travis has gained valuable skills for success both on the job and in everyday life.

Travis has embraced every opportunity to grow - from learning how to commute to work, manage his time, and navigate workplace expectations, to developing budgeting skills and setting personal goals. He shares that one of the biggest benefits has been learning the basics of working while building confidence and independence along the way.

We're proud of all Travis has accomplished and look forward to seeing what he achieves next! 👏✨

Around 120 Early/Middle College students kicked off the new school year at Kalamazoo Valley Community College!

From those just starting their EMC journey to returning students gearing up for their next year, the energy was incredible.

Over their time in the program, these learners will work toward earning both their high school diplomas and an associate degree or certificate, gaining a head start on their future.

We are incredibly proud of this entire group and can't wait to see all they achieve. Join us in wishing them the best of luck this year!
