A: Yes! That refers to a different state program for switching traditional public school districts. Oakland Academy is a charter school and works differently — we accept applications year-round.

Q: Is there a deadline?
A: No hard deadline. We use a random lottery only if a grade level fills up, but you can apply anytime.

Q: Is there a cost?
A: No — we're a tuition-free public school, same as any other public school in Michigan.

Q: Do we have to live in a certain district?
A: No. Charter schools are open to any Michigan resident, regardless of home district.

The first day is fast approaching! Also be sure to mark your calendars for the open house 8/26 from 4-6pm to meet the teachers and see the classrooms! Reminder: Starting the first day only students will be allowed in the building so please use the open house to prepare your child and carry in any donations or supplies. 💚

📣 Exciting news for the Oakland community! OA families, if you have a little one starting preschool this year, the GSRP classroom will be in the Oakland Academy lower el building and a seamless transition into KG or young 5’s ☺️

Finding the right preschool is one of the most important decisions parents make. That's why we're excited to announce that Oakland Early Learning Center is now offering the Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP), Michigan's free preschool program for four-year-olds.
