"Shoot the Breeze" On 26 OCT 2012 the team commander Wes "Blackbird" Merkel relocated operation to Norman, OK, and then again to Portage, WI in March of 2015.
The Windtalker Storm Chasing Team, or "Windtalkers" for short, was originally a group composed mostly of college students from IL and WI who enjoy the pure thrill of chasing and intercepting severe thunderstorms and tornadoes, founded in Leyden Township, IL. Regardless of location, the mission remains the same, to relay accurate ground truth information of severe weather to the National Weather Service, to better aid the accuracy of warnings issued by the Storm Predition Center.
