What a great year it has been! Thank you to our students, families, teachers, and staff for making North Middle such a special place.

🎢☀️ 8th Grade Michigan Adventure Trip Reminder! ☀️🎢

Our 8th graders are headed to Michigan Adventure on **Friday, June 5!**

📍 Students should arrive at North Middle School by **7:30 a.m.**
🚌 Buses depart at **8:00 a.m. sharp**
🏡 Return to NMS is approximately **5:45 p.m.**

A few reminders:
✅ Lunch is provided
✅ Students may bring snacks, drinks, and a pillow for the bus ride
✅ Technology is allowed on the bus
✅ Any spending money will need to be loaded onto a Michigan Adventure card for use in the park
✅ The buses will not stop for dinner on the way home, so students may wish to purchase food before leaving the park

This trip is a special privilege for our 8th graders, and we're excited to celebrate the end of their middle school journey with a fun day together! 🎉

🎉 **Help Us Build the NMS PTO!** 🎉

We're looking for parents/guardians who would like to serve as PTO officers for the 2026-27 school year. No previous PTO experience is required—just a willingness to help support our students, staff, and school community!

📌 **President**
Leads meetings, helps guide PTO activities, and works closely with school administration.

📌 **Vice President**
Supports the President, helps coordinate events and committees, and steps in when needed.

📌 **Secretary**
Keeps meeting notes and helps maintain PTO records and communications.

📌 **Treasurer**
Tracks PTO finances, prepares financial reports, and helps manage the budget.

Most positions require attending PTO meetings, communicating with fellow volunteers, and helping organize activities throughout the school year.

🎓✨ 8th Grade Promotion & Farewell Dance ✨🎓

We're excited to celebrate our 8th graders on **Thursday, June 4!**

🎓 **Promotion Ceremony**
📅 June 4
🕟 4:30 PM
📍 PNHS Huskie Stadium

Students should arrive by **4:00 PM** to line up. Family and friends are welcome—**no tickets are required!** Guests should plan to sit on the home-side bleachers.

🎉 **Farewell Dance**
Following the ceremony, students will walk back to North Middle School for the 8th Grade Farewell Dance.

💵 $5 entry fee (includes food)
🕡 Dance ends at 6:45 PM

We look forward to celebrating this special milestone with our students and families! 💙🧡

📋 **Proposed PTO Bylaw Updates**

As we work to rebuild and strengthen the North Middle School PTO, we've updated our bylaws to better reflect how families participate today while maintaining strong financial oversight and transparency.

Some of the proposed changes include:

✅ Allowing in-person, virtual, and electronic participation and voting
✅ Establishing two-term limits for President and Vice President positions to encourage new leadership opportunities
✅ Creating clearer spending guidelines, including Board approval for purchases up to $500 and member approval for larger unbudgeted expenses
✅ Adding a process for emergency electronic voting when time-sensitive decisions can't wait until the next meeting
✅ Strengthening financial transparency through annual financial reviews and member access to financial records
✅ Adding conflict-of-interest protections and officer accountability provisions
✅ Establishing committees, special meeting procedures, and updated election processes

The goal of these updates is to create a PTO that is flexible, transparent, financially responsible, and welcoming to all families.

☀️🎉 6th Grade Field Day is TOMORROW! 🎉☀️

We're excited for a day full of fun, games, and friendly competition TOMORROW - **Tuesday, June 2!**

To help students have a safe and enjoyable day, please remember:

💙 Wear your favorite PN gear or school colors
👟 Wear athletic shoes (no sandals, Crocs, or flip-flops)
🧴 Apply sunscreen before school and pack some for reapplication if needed
🧢 Bring a hat and sunglasses for sun protection
💧 Bring a labeled reusable water bottle

📣 Thank You for Joining Our First NMS PTO Meeting!

We had a great discussion about the future of the NMS PTO and received several exciting updates from Principal Thomsen.

Highlights included:
✅ Significant reductions in office referrals and continued success of the Reflection Zone
✅ Positive results from the 6th grade teaming program, including improved attendance, behavior, and academic achievement
✅ Updates on the district's middle school math curriculum review
✅ Upcoming events, including the Student Showcase, Growlers STEM Day, Talent Show, and 8th Grade Promotion

We also discussed PTO plans for next year, including:
🎉 Launching NMS spirit wear before school starts
📋 Reviewing and updating PTO bylaws over the summer
🤝 Recruiting volunteers and PTO leaders for the 2026-27 school year

We're excited to continue building a strong PTO that supports our students, staff, and families. Thank you to everyone who attended and shared ideas. More information and opportunities to get involved will be coming soon!

Potential fees:
• Missing Charger: $15
• Broken Screen: $25
• Damaged Keyboard: $25
• Stickers left on Chromebook: $15
• Missing Chromebook: $250

Please check at home for chargers and remove any stickers from the Chromebook before return day. Thank you!

Reminder! Our PNMS PTO meeting is TODAY at 11:30 a.m. and we’re excited to share that we will also have a virtual option available! Woohoo 🎉

Since this is our first time trying a hybrid meeting setup, we appreciate everyone’s patience if things aren’t totally perfect yet 😊 We’re learning as we go and hope this helps more parents have a chance to join us! Fingers crossed, we’ll record the meeting as well so others can view later this weekend.
