Take a look at what previous students have done in some of my classes!

These two students were a part of a Yarn Spinning Crash Course I taught a couple months ago. In the photo, you can see that they not only learned about the machines and techniques used to process fiber to turn into yarn (behind the student on the left), but they were also able to get hands-on experience spinning yarn on drop spindles (which they were able to take home with them, plus some additional fiber to practice).

I'd say they made some pretty good progress with the yarn they were spinning in class, and I wish them the best in their yarn spinning journey from then going forward! Thank you to both of them for allowing me permission to post this photo on my socials.

If you'd like to learn more about yarn spinning, my next Yarn Spinning Crash Course is scheduled for Saturday, November 28th from 3pm-5pm at Here in the Mitten. Sign-up at my website, or on Here in the Mitten's website. Space is limited, so snag your seat today!

I swear, I’ve gotten so many comments like “where did you get those?” and “those are perfect!” about these pumpkins from people I’ve had over at my place since I put them out for the fall. I almost feel guilty telling them I made them in less than an afternoon!

On October 17th from 12:30pm to 2:30pm I’ll be teaching a Continuing Crochet class at Here in the Mitten, with these pumpkins as the project. This is the perfect project to add to your fall decor, make them as a gift, or to simply solidify your crochet skills.

Sign-up today at my website, or on Here in the Mitten’s website. Tuition includes the yarn and stuffing for this project.

With cold weather hopefully on the horizon, learn a new skill that'll last you all winter (and beyond)! The next session of Beginning Crochet starts in the middle of this month on Wednesdays, so be sure to snag your spot at www.hereinthemitten.com!

Beginning Crochet is designed for people who have never touched a crochet hook in their lives, but are wanting to learn the basics. In this skills-based class, you'll gain the knowledge and techniques necessary to complete beginner-level projects like hats and scarves using crochet, and have a launching point to which to continue your own learning.

Those who have been crocheting or knitting for a while may notice some pain or discomfort in their hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders while creating projects. Usually this stems from poor posture, incorrect mechanics, or working without breaks. Regardless, ANY pain or discomfort that arises during these activities needs to be addressed. One way to do this is through stretching.

Think of exercises you did during gym in school. Shaking out your hands. Pulling your arm across your body. Simply reaching overhead. All of these movements move your body in different ways, and break up the repetitive motions fiber arts usually require. This difference in motion helps your body not get "stuck" in certain positions, lessening your chance for repetitive motion injuries.
