Port Pre-School, Inc. 3K Preschool & PWSSD 4K Partner - www.portpreschool.com Port Pre-School, Inc. was a pioneering venture for the City of Port Washington.

In 1966, mothers within the community were concerned that the city was without some kind of organized activity for pre-schoolers. After forming a committee to study the various types of pre-schools, both church-sponsored and independent cooperatives, the committee decided that the pre-school would be a non-profit, non-sectarian, non-discriminatory, cooperative pre-school maintained and operated by

its members. This decision reflected the desire of the committee members to provide the community with a program available to the greatest number of children. Virginia Clarahan, Sally Puckett, Suzanne Mayhew, Beverly Tutas and Lenore Lindquist opened the doors of Port Pre-School, Inc. for the first time in October 1967.

Dear Port Pre-School Families,

After much deliberation, it is with heavy hearts the executive board of Port Pre-School has made the decision to close the school at the end of the 21/22 school year.

The impact of 4k being streamlined into the district buildings is too significant of a financial loss for us to remain a 3k site only. In addition, a ‘parent co-op run’ school with only one grade level makes it very difficult to have consistent leadership as the parent board would likely turn over year after year.

These last 55 years have been nothing shy of amazing and would not have been possible without the most phenomenal group of teachers- we truly believe they were the best! The memories made in the classrooms of Port Pre-School is what we will remember for years to come.

We would like to thank

First Congregational Church - for allowing us the quaint classrooms we have called “home” since day one.

The parents of Port Pre-School students - who have stepped up to a seat on the parent board to make this parent co-op successful for 55 years.

Our Teachers - for their dedication and commitment to the students and the school

The families in the community - for your support and entrusting Port Pre-School for your child’s first school experience.

The hundreds of Port Pre-School Students - for attending Port Pre-School, your smiling faces will be missed most of all!
