The new backpack is exciting. 🎒
Remembering what goes in it every night takes practice. 🙂

As school routines settle in, this is where the everyday work begins.

✔️Getting ready.
✔️Listening to the directions.
✔️Starting the task.
✔️Finishing what you started.

At CMA, we give students opportunities to practice that same follow-through: get into position, listen to the instruction, work on the technique, and make an adjustment when needed.

Some days it comes easily. Other days they need a reminder and a smaller first step.

We keep the expectation clear and help them take that next step. 👣

For home this week, choose one routine your child can practice. Keep it simple enough that they know what “done” looks like.

✔️Shoes by the door.
✔️Backpack packed.
✔️One job completed before moving to the next.

If you’re looking for a structured, encouraging activity for your child this school year, message us about getting started at Championship Martial Arts of Port Washington.

Back-to-school season brings plenty of reminders to “pay attention.”

But focus is not something children automatically know how to do. It is a skill they need to practice.

At CMA, we break focus into four simple parts:

👀 Focus Eyes: Look at who is speaking.

👂 Focus Ears: Listen to what is being said.

🥋 Focus Body: Stay still and under control.

🧠 Focus Mind: Think about what you are doing right now.

Students practice these skills every class until focus becomes something they know how to use at home, at school, and everywhere else.

Progress doesn’t always look dramatic.

Sometimes it’s the student who stays focused a little longer than they did last week.

The student who listens to a correction and tries again.

The student who remembers one more step.

The student who makes a mistake, resets and keeps going.

The student who speaks a little louder, stands a little taller or tackles something they used to avoid.

Those moments may seem small.

But repeated over time, they become confidence, discipline, focus and resilience.

That’s why we pay attention to the little wins.

They’re usually where the real growth is happening. 🥋

Testing is coming up, but knowing the techniques is only part of being ready.

Students also have to be able to focus when it's time to perform.

Eyes focused on what they need to see.
Ears listening to the instruction.
Body under control and ready to respond.
Mind thinking about what they're doing right now.

Those are the same focus skills we've been talking about as kids head back into the classroom—and they're skills we practice on the mat every single week.

Sometimes the best way to explain what we're teaching is simply to let you hear it happening.

🎥 A little piece of class with Sir Jonathan as we prepare for testing.

Eyes. Ears. Body. Mind.

Put your attention where your goal is. 🥋

Back-to-school means a lot of reminders to “pay attention” — but focus is actually a skill kids can practice.

At CMA, we break it down into four simple parts:

Focus Eyes — look at who is talking.
Focus Ears — listen to what is being said.
Focus Body — stand still and stay under control.
Focus Mind — think about what we are doing right now.

Those are the same skills students need this week as they settle into new classrooms, new routines and new expectations.

On the mat, we practice focus over and over until it becomes something students know how to do — not just something adults tell them to do.

That’s one more way martial arts can support success far beyond the dojo.

Parents usually notice the kicks first.

I notice something different.

I notice when a student starts standing a little taller.
When they make a mistake and try again instead of quitting.
When I give instructions and they lock in.
When they encourage the student standing next to them.
When they're frustrated, reset themselves and get back to work.

Those are some of the moments we're really training for.
The martial arts are the vehicle.

Confidence. Discipline. Focus. Respect. Self-control.

Those are the skills we're working to build.
And those skills matter long after class is over.

Today was a big day—most of our Championship Martial Arts students headed back to school for their first day! 🎒📚✏️

And Master Kris went to school today too… but not as a student! 😄 He stopped by Lincoln Elementary in Port Washington to personally deliver all the school supplies collected during our School Supply Drive to Principal Voskuil!

Great work, Champions! 🥋🏆 Because of your generosity, we were able to provide Lincoln Elementary with a whole lot of much-needed school supplies. Thank you to everyone who donated and helped make a difference for local students and teachers!

Stay tuned for more information about our celebratory Ice Cream Sundae Party! 🍦🎉

For most kids, tomorrow is the first day back to school — and it probably won’t go perfectly.

There may be a forgotten lunch, a rushed morning, a missed direction or a moment when everything feels a little overwhelming. One hard moment doesn’t have to decide the rest of the day — or the week.

Teach the reset:
Pause. Name the next action. Begin.

“Name the next action” simply means helping your child identify the one thing they need to do next. Forgot something? Figure out what needs to go in the backpack. Got distracted? Decide what needs to happen next and do it. Made a mistake? Identify how to fix it and try again.

Discipline isn’t about getting everything right the first time. It’s noticing what went wrong, returning to the standard and making the next good choice.

At CMA, students practice this all the time — resetting after a mistake so one hard moment doesn’t become a quitting point.

Here’s to a great first week of school — resets and all!

Anthony’s brown stripe didn’t come from simply showing up — it came from putting in the work until he could recite the Champion’s Resolve from heart.

That’s a great picture of what we mean when we talk about confidence built through preparation and follow-through. He focused, practiced, stayed with it and then stepped up ready to show what he knew.

Each stripe represents progress, but moments like this show something even bigger: students learning that they can prepare for a challenge, do something difficult and be proud of the work that got them there.

Way to go, Anthony! Brown stripe earned. 👊🥋

School is starting soon, and preparation matters.

Practice does more than improve technique. It gives a student proof: “I can do hard things when I prepare.”

Every repetition, every correction and every skill they stick with builds confidence based on real progress—not just encouragement.

That confidence carries beyond the mat and into the classroom: I can listen. I can learn. I can work through something difficult. I can be ready.

Prepared feels powerful.
