On Thursday, June 16, Port Townsend School District teachers and support staff attended the school board meeting to advocate for a fair wage. PT teachers make over ten thousand less than teachers in surrounding districts we compete with for the best quality teachers. The PTEA and school district are currently negotiating the 2022-2024 contract. Please help us with our request by sharing this post, contacting school board members and/or Dr. Rosenbury, [email protected], the superintendent of the Port Townsend School District. Dear All,

This is our moment. We need all teachers to rally and attend the school board meeting this Monday 6/13/16 at 6:00 pm. Please arrive at 5:15 to organize and celebrate.

We have a positive, simple, and important message for the school board. Teachers are the engines that make schools great.

A. Please provide us with regionally competitive wages so we can attract and retain excellent teachers.

B. Please provide us with teacher directed collaboration time so we can develop our professional learning communities (PLC) to their highest levels.

We cannot emphasize enough how important this meeting is to making these things a reality for teachers. Please try to bring your best friends and/or family as well. A strong showing will resonate.

The Port Townsend Teacher's Association continues to have productive discussions with District and community members regarding flexible Collaboration time, Communication around Teacher-Principal Evaluation, and Compensation to bring us in line with other Districts of our size and geographic area--It's basic! Please consider writing a letter to the PT Leader this week or weekend so it makes next week's Wednesday Leader!

Tonight Port Townsend graduates an inspiring group of young people! They have long been considered (by PTHS staff) to be one of the NICEST classes we've had the pleasure to teach and as I look over the faces of this group I'm reminded how much they care about the world they are walking into, how willing they are to work hard, and that they are ready to take on the tough challenges ahead of them. Congrats 2016!!

Thank you community members for your support of teachers at the May 24 School Board Meeting. The Port Townsend Education Association and the District have been negotiating since October and finally had a constructive day at the bargaining table on May 26.
