Tiny Tots Academy is a curriculum/school based daycare program.

The curriculum is based on developing your child’s mathematical thinking, language and literacy, social and emotional skills, gross and fine motor skills, and scientific exploration.

H is for Halloween

Monday: During circle time we read “Room on the Broom.” The children counted each character that rode on the broom. The two-year-olds worked on matching the shapes by matching the triangle witch hats to the triangles on the orange paper. The four-year-olds worked on mastering their pronated grip and writing the capital letter H. They also reviewed all the previous letters.

Tuesday: During circle time read “Runaway Pumpkin.” The children used flashlights to create “ghosts.” They shined a flashlight through different objects to see if a shadow would be created or the light would pass through. The children used their gross motor skills to do som “pumpkin” bowling. Using costume dressed ducks as our pins, the children took aim before rolling their “pumpkin” to knock down the ducks.

Wednesday: During circle time we read “Ten Timid Ghosts.” The children used their fingers to sing the finger play song along with the book. Using their fingers as the ghosts subtracting one each time as host ran away. The children explored objects in water. Before placing different objects in water, the children predicted if the object would sink or float.

Thursday: During circle time we read “Mr. Happy Pumpkin.” The children sang the song “Five Little Pumpkins.” Using their hands as the little pumpkins each sitting on the gate. The children created their letter H page for their ABC book. Using orange paint to create their pumpkin as H is for Halloween.

G is for Grocery Store

Monday: During circle time we read “At the Supermarket.” The children sang the song “At the Store” to the tune of “Old McDonald.” The children collected items from the recycle bin to create our own grocery store. They placed the different items on the shelves like at the grocery store.

Tuesday: During circle time we read “Put it on the List.” The children had a picture scavenger hunt while searching our grocery store shelves to match the items on their list. We then went shopping. Using the shopping carts, the children got to shop for any items they wanted from the grocery store.

Wednesday: During circle time we read “Shopping with Dad.” The children followed along to Danny Go’s “Grocery Store Dash.” Running along to collect the different items before heading to the checkout to swipe and scan their items. The children used the grocery store items to build a tower bigger than them. Once their tower was built, they counted each item.

Thursday: During circle time we read “Llama Llama Mad at Mamma.” The children sorted different colored foods into the corresponding colored basket. The two-year-olds made a favorite food collage by glues different food items onto their paper. The four-year-olds worked on mastering their pronated grip and writing the capital letter G. They also worked on their scissor skills by helping the two year olds cut out their food pictures.

F is for Forest

Monday: During circle time we read “Looking for a Moose.” The children sang and did the motions to “We’re Going On A Bear Hunt” replacing the bear with a Moose. The two-year-olds created a painting of moose tracks by using their feet to paint. The four-year-olds worked on mastering their pronated grip and writing the capital letter F.

Tuesday: During circle time we read “Little Owl’s Night.” The children learned the finger-play song “Way up in the Sky,” spinning around like twinkling stars in the sky. The children played in the dark with flashlights, creating different shadows on the wall.

Wednesday: During circle time we read “Night-Night Forest Friends.” The children experimented with shadows, trying to create different forest animals on the wall using a flashlight again. We explored the outdoors while outside. The children looked for different tracks of animals in the dirt and tried to spot different creatures such as bunnies and squirrels.

Thursday: During circle time we read “Who’s in the Forest?” The children sang “In the Forest,” making different forest animals to the tune of “Old McDonald.” We collected different nature elements while outside. The children then used elements to create a nature college.

E is for Everything About Me

Monday: Closed!

Tuesday: During circle time we read “I Like Myself.” The children compared and contrasted each other by looking at eye and hair color. Four children had brown eyes, one had hazel eyes and one had blue eyes. The children looked at their body shape and size by having their body traced with chalk. We then compared who was the biggest and who was the smallest.

Wednesday: During circle time we read “I’m Gonna Like Me.” The children identified their different body parts such as head, arms and legs. After reviewing their facial features such as eyes, nose and mouth, the children each made a self portrait.

Thursday: During circle time we read “My Family.” The children talked about who was in their family such as mom, dad and siblings. We also discussed how some relatives are called different names such as grandma and nana. The two-year-olds worked on counting and deductive reasoning while creating a family portrait. The four-year-olds worked on mastering their pronated grip and writing the capital letter E.

D is for Down on the Farm

Monday: During circle time we read “Down on the Farm.” The children named all the farm animals while singing “Old McDonald Had A Farm.” The two-year-olds identified the different farm animals based on their sound. The four-year-olds worked on mastering their pronated grip and writing the capital letter D.

Tuesday: During circle time we read “The Empty Nest.” The children followed along to Danny Go’s “Pigs On The Loose” while chasing the purple chicken. The children used their fine motor skills to scoop eggs and place them in the egg carton. Using a spoon, they scooped with one hand and balanced the egg in the spoon before transferring it to the carton.

Wednesday: During circle time we read “Chuck’s Truck.” The children worked on matching the farm animal to their habitat on the farm. The two-year-olds worked on their pronated grip while coloring the different farm animals. The four-year-olds worked on letter recognition while matching the farm animal to their habitat corresponding square of the animal name.

Thursday: During circle time we read “Click! Clack! Moo!” The children danced to the “Hokey Pokey” while being different farm animals. They flapped their arms like chickens flying and pretended to dig in mud like pigs. The children worked on deductive reasoning and color recognition while playing “I Spy” to look for different farm animals. They searched for the animal that was described such as “I spy a farm animal that is black and white.”

C is for Community Helpers

Monday: During circle time we read “Goodnight Construction Site.” We looked at different construction vehicles and the children identified the ones they knew. The two-year-olds used building blocks to build different structures like construction workers. The four-year-olds worked on mastering their pronated grip and writing the capital letter C.

Tuesday: During circle we read “Lola at the Library.” The children each got to pick a book from our library to be read. The children did a book scavenger hunt. The two-year-olds searched and identified different colors throughout their book. The four-year-olds looked for and identified different letters throughout their book.

Wednesday: During circle time we read “Send It.” The children looked at different mail carrying trucks such as USPS, UPS, FedEx and Amazon. They identified the different colors of each truck and compared them. The children “mailed” letters. The two-year-olds worked on their pronated grip and drawing simple shapes. The four-year-olds worked on mastering the pronated grip and writing their name.

Thursday: During circle time we read “Fire Engine Man.” The children reviewed how to call 911, “Stop, Drop, Roll,” and what to do if there’s a fire at school. The children participated in our monthly fire drill by lining up and exiting through the back door as fast as possible.

B is for Bugs

Monday: During circle time we read “Waiting for Wings.” The children looked at a diagram of a butterfly and identified its different body parts such as antennas and wings. The two-year-olds worked on color identification, color matching and size matching while sorting different colored and sized butterflies. The four-year-olds worked on mastering their pronated grip and writing the capital letter B.

Tuesday: During circle time we read “In the Tall, Tall Grass.” The children identified different bugs such as bees, spiders and ants. The children went on a big hunt and found the different bugs we identified during circle time.

Wednesday: During circle time we read “The Very Busy Spider.” We sang the song “The Itsy Bitsy Spider.” The children danced to Danny Go’s bug song, acting like different bug. The children used their gross motor skills to act like creepy crawly spiders.

Thursday: During circle time we read “Bee and Me.” The children identified the different parts of a bee such as the wings, stinger, head and body. We sang the song “Baby Bumble Bee” while doing the motions of carrying and squishing the bee. The children got to try honey with their lunch today.

A is for Apple

Monday: During circle time we read “10 Apples Up on Top.” The children counted each apple that the lion, the dog and the tiger placed on top of their head. The two year olds worked on number recognition. Working on the numbers 1 to 5, they picked an apple off the table before matching it to the corresponding numbered apple on the tree. The four year olds worked on letter recognition. Working with the letters in their name, they picked a letter off the table before matching it to the corresponding letter on the tree.

Tuesday: During circle time we read “The Apple Pie Tree.” The children learn the finger play song “Five Little Apples Sitting In A Tree.” The two-year-olds worked on counting from 1 to 10 while picking apples off the tree. The four-year-olds worked on counting 1 to 20 while picking apples off the tree.

Wednesday: During circle time we read “If You Give A Dog A Donut.” The children looked at a diagram of the parts of an apple such as the skin, core and seeds. The two-year-olds used their fine motor skills to create donuts out of playdough. The four-year-old worked on mastering their pronated grip and writing the capital letter A.

Thursday: During circle time we read “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.” We discussed the days of the week and learned a new song “7 Days A Week.” The children worked on their gross motor skills of throwing and catching while pretending a red ball was an apple.

Last week we learned about holidays around the world. We learned about hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa.

During circle time, we read “Hanukkah, Here I Come.” We began discussing holidays around the world. Today we learned about Hanukkah. The children learned and played the dreidel game. They took turns spinning the dreidel to see if they won or not. We made our own play dough. The children mixed together flour, water, oil and salt to create their play dough. They then rolled out their dough and used a star to trace The Star of David in their dough.

During circle time, we read “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” Today we learned about Christmas. The children learned about Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus, and The Three Kings. They got to explore the manager and the people by placing them in the nativity scene. We decorated a Christmas tree using our fine motor skills. The children picked up different colored q-tips before pushing them through the cardboard tree.

During circle time, we read “The Night Before Kwanzaa.” Today we learned about Kwanzaa. The children learned about the red and green candles and what they mean. We danced to African drumming. The children used flexible body movements to dance and keep beat with the drums.

Last week we learned all about snow.

Monday: During circle time, we read “I See Winter.” We discussed snow. The children answered questions such as “Do you know what snow is?” and “Have you ever seen snow?” Pretending that shaving cream was snow, the children used their finger to write the letters of their name and make shapes. The older children looked at their name written on a piece of paper and wrote the letters of their name in the snow. The younger children used their finger to draw different shapes in the snow.

Tuesday: During circle time, we read “The Biggest Snowman Ever.” We discussed the steps to create a snowman. The children placed photos of the steps of making a snowman in order. We created our own snowmen using marshmallows. The children placed marshmallows around the circles of the snowman, counting each one marshmallow placed.

Wednesday: During circle time, we read “Curious About Snow.” We learned about the science of snow. The children learned when it snows, why is snow white, and how no two snowflakes look alike. We created snow. The children mixed together flour and oil to create their own snow before exploring the texture.

Thursday: During circle time, we read “The Snow Dance.” We listened to five little snowman. The children did the motions like the snowman and pretended to be snowflakes blowing in the wind. We made snowflake cookies. The children helped mix the ingredients for the cookies before rolling it out and using a snowflake cookie cutter to create their cookies. After they were baked and cooled, they used dark blue, light blue and white icing to frost their cookies and added blue sprinkles.

Monday: During circle time, we read “It’s Harvest Time.” We discussed different things on a farm that is harvested such as corn and wheat. The children learned about different harvesting equipment such as a combine. We made corn cobs. The children used bubble wrap dipped in yellow paint to stamp the corn kernels onto their paper. They then used a glue bottle to glue on the outside leaves of the corn cob.

Tuesday: During circle time, we read “We Gather Together.” We discussed the weather during fall. The children learned a little about daylight savings and how the time changes to create longer nights and shorter days. We created harvest baskets. The children used a glue bottle to make lines of glue before adding brown strips of paper to make the weave of their basket.

Wednesday: During circle time, we read “Let’s Hatch Chicks.” We discussed how vegetables and other things from a field aren’t the only thing harvested on a farm. The children learned how farmers also have animals that provide things such as chickens providing eggs. We gather eggs like a farmer. The children searched for the eggs and placed them into their basket. After finding all their eggs they counted the eggs.

Thursday: During circle time, we read “Where Does My Food Come From?” We discussed animals that live on the farm. The children learned how beef and milk comes from cows and eggs from chickens. We sorted animals into their barns. The younger children worked on identifying the colors and using their fine motor skills to open and close the barns. The older children worked on identifying the numbers and placing the barns in chronological order.

Last week we learned all about squirrels and acorns.

Monday: During circle time, we read “Have You Seen My Acorn?” We discussed a squirrel’s habitat. The children talked about how squirrels live in trees and they learned how they create nests. We sorted acorns by smallest to biggest. The younger children worked in identifying a small and big acorn when prompted “Which one is the small?” The older children worked on placing the seeds in order from smallest to largest. We created our own squirrel nest. The children searched for different objects a squirrel would use for their nest such as sticks and palm branches.

Tuesday: During circle time, we read “Squirrel’s Busy Day.” We discussed what squirrels eat and how they travel. The children talked about how they ate acorns and nuts. They learned that they run across tree branches and jump tree to tree. We fed squirrels and matched letters. The younger children used their fine motor skills to place acorns into the squirrel’s mouth. The older children worked on letter recognition while matching the squirrel holding the capital letter to the squirrel holding the corresponding lower case letter.

Wednesday: During circle time, we read “The Leaf Thief.” We discussed the different types of squirrels. The children learned about red, brown, grey and flying squirrels. They then played a game and identified the squirrels by their color. We did a squirrel puzzle. The children worked on number recognition and number order by placing the pieces in numerical order from 1 to 10 to complete the puzzle.

Thursday: During circle time, we read “Because Of An Acorn.” We looked at the different parts of an acorn. The children learned the outside parts of an acorn such as the stem and the inside parts of an acorn such as seed coat. We fed the squirrels. The children spread sunflower seeds and nuts around the yard for the squirrels.

Friday: During circle time, we read “The Sneaky, Snacky Squirrel and the Golden Acorn.” We reviewed all about squirrels and acorns. The children identified the different squirrel types, their habitats and what they eat. They then reviewed the parts of an acorn. We observed squirrels today. The children watched the squirrels through the windows in their natural habitat. We watched them eat the seeds we put out yesterday and chase each other around.
