๐ What is a Reimbursable Meal?
A reimbursable meal is a meal that meets USDA nutrition guidelines and helps ensure students receive the nutrients they need to learn, grow, and thrive. School meals may include fruits, vegetables, protein, whole grains, and milk. Students do not have to take every item, but they must select the required components for the meal to qualify.
โ
Breakfast: Students must choose at least 3 items, and one must be a fruit or 100% fruit juice.
โ
Lunch: Students must choose at least 3 of the 5 meal components, and one must be a fruit or vegetable.
These guidelines help provide balanced nutrition, reduce food waste by allowing students to choose foods they will eat, and support the funding that helps keep school meals affordable and accessible for students.
๐ฃ Parents, we need your help! Talk with your child about making complete meal selections in the cafeteria. Ask them what they chose for breakfast or lunch today and remind them to include a fruit or vegetable with every meal. Together, we can help students build healthy habits that fuel learning and success both in and out of the classroom! ๐๐ฅ๐
