Sometimes, appearing to be involved in everything can send the wrong message to customers and clients.
Let me explain.
As business owners, it is exciting to be part of opportunities that help us grow personally and professionally. Networking, events, collaborations, speaking engagements, and community involvement can all be valuable.
But there is also a balance.
When you appear too busy or too visible everywhere, some customers may wonder if you are still present in your own business operations. They want to see that you are active, accessible, and engaged — not just always in the limelight.
Being seen is important.
Being available is just as important.
Growth should not disconnect you from the people you serve. Your clients want confidence that while you are building, expanding, and showing up in new spaces, your business is still being handled with care, consistency, and professionalism.
Presence matters. Balance matters. Perception matters.

"I don't know why people waste their money paying to learn about notary when you can just Google it, watch YouTube, or shadow other notaries for free."
I recently came across a post that said exactly that, and the comments were filled with strong opinions from every direction.
Honestly, I can understand all sides.
The internet is an incredible resource. You can find information about almost anything with a quick search. You can watch videos, read articles, join groups, and learn a lot on your own.
The challenge is that not everything online is accurate.
Anyone who has spent enough time researching knows that you can find five different answers to the same question. Some information is outdated. Some is incomplete. Some is simply wrong.
On the other hand, just because someone is charging for a course doesn't automatically mean they're qualified to teach. There are people selling training programs for things they have little real-world experience doing.
So where does that leave someone who wants to become a successful notary?
For many people, it comes down to learning style and risk tolerance.
Some people are excellent self-learners. They thrive on researching, testing, and figuring things out independently.
Others prefer structured learning, guidance, accountability, and having someone they can turn to when questions arise. They would rather invest in education than risk making costly mistakes that could impact their reputation, their clients, or even expose them to legal issues.
Personally, I started out trying to learn on my own.
After completing my very first signing and feeling the nervousness that came with it, I realized I wanted more than scattered information. I wanted confidence. I wanted guidance. I wanted to learn from people who were already doing what I hoped to do.
So I invested in courses and mentorship.
Looking back, that decision played a major role in where I am today.
Today, I have the experience, the expertise, state-approved training programs, and the privilege of teaching and mentoring notaries who want a more structured path to success. My academy exists because I believe quality education, delivered by qualified professionals, has value.
If structured learning is your goal, do your research. Find instructors who are actually doing what you want to do. Look for people with experience, credibility, and a track record of helping others succeed.
Can you learn from Google and YouTube?
Absolutely.
Can you find qualified mentors and instructors online?
Absolutely.
The key is knowing the difference.
And that's something you can use Google for. 😉

A few months ago, I decided to do something different.
Every month, I receive the Google Business Profile performance report in my email. Usually, I would glance at it and move on. But about 2–3 months ago, I asked AI to review the report for me and tell me what it saw.
Then I asked a second question:
"What can I do to improve these numbers?"
When I tell you the response was packed with information, I mean it. It pointed out areas I hadn't paid much attention to, identified opportunities for improvement, and gave me practical suggestions that I could implement right away.
So I did.
Within about two weeks, I started noticing an increase in calls. Not only that, but some customers actually told me they found me through AI recommendations.
That was the moment it clicked for me.
It's not that my business wasn't doing well before. The issue was that some of my systems and processes had become outdated. The way people search for services is changing, and businesses have to be willing to adapt along with it.
Today, I rely heavily on reports and data to help guide decisions. Instead of guessing what works, I look at the numbers. The data helps me forecast trends, identify opportunities, and recognize when something is no longer producing results.
If you're struggling with AI, it may not be because AI doesn't work. It may be because you're not providing it with the information it needs to give you meaningful results.
The good news? You don't have to figure it out alone.
At TNEG, we're helping notaries and business owners learn how to use today's tools to work smarter, make informed decisions, and build stronger businesses.
The future isn't coming. It's already here. The question is: are you adapting with it?
