Apparently, somebody told the GOATs we were hiring. 😂🐐🐐

Two goats casually walked onto our construction site today like they belonged here. No idea where they came from, but they seemed ready for orientation.

We’ve had armadillos, raccoons and now goats wandering around this job. Animal Control came and safely picked them up, but at this rate, I’m not sure what’s showing up tomorrow.

Just another day Behind The Build—you truly never know what’s going to walk onto a jobsite.

SECONDS TO ESCAPE — THE NEPAL FLASH FLOOD

This one has nothing to do with construction, but I had to share it.

Watch closely. These people realize something is wrong and start running — and within seconds, a massive wall of mud, water and debris comes through.

It’s difficult to comprehend the power involved until you actually see something like this happen in real time.

We build roads, bridges, buildings and infrastructure that can seem incredibly strong. Then Mother Nature occasionally gives us a reminder of just how powerful she really is.

My thoughts are with everyone affected by this disaster.

Yes… That’s Concrete We’re Spraying 😳 | Lightweight Insulating Concrete

Believe it or not, that material being sprayed is part of our lightweight insulating concrete roof system.

We’re starting the lightweight concrete installation on the roof, and this gives you a look at the process most people never get to see.

The lightweight slurry is being placed as part of the roof assembly, and as we continue the installation I’ll keep showing you the different stages — from mixing and pumping the material all the way through placement and finishing.

This is one of those construction processes that looks pretty strange if you’ve never seen it before. 😂

Before It Goes Underground, We Check Everything 👀 | Fire Hydrant Delivery

Another part of commercial construction that doesn’t always get much attention — receiving and checking underground utility materials before installation.

We just had a large delivery come in with our fire hydrants and underground utility components, so we’re going through everything and making sure we received the correct materials, quantities, sizes, fittings, and equipment before the crews need it.

It may not be the most exciting part of the job, but finding out you’ve got the wrong fitting after the crew is standing in an open excavation waiting for it makes for a much more exciting day than anybody wants. 😂

A lot happens before something ever gets installed: ordering, deliveries, verification, staging, coordination — and eventually most of this will disappear underground.

What Is This Machine? | Lightweight Concrete Roof System 👀

If you’ve never seen lightweight concrete being installed on a commercial roof, this setup probably looks like some kind of strange contraption sitting on the jobsite. 😂

This is the lightweight concrete mixing and pumping equipment getting mobilized for our roof work.

The dry material is delivered into the hopper, carried up into the mixing unit, blended with water, and then the finished lightweight concrete is pumped all the way up to the roof where the crew places it.

On this project, we’re placing the lightweight concrete over metal deck and insulation board, but lightweight concrete can be used in other applications too. I’ve also worked with it over hollow-core and structural slabs.

This is just the beginning of the process, so as we get deeper into the lightweight roof installation, I’ll keep showing you how the material is mixed, pumped, placed, and finished.
