Science Summer Camp finished yesterday with Campers acting like scientists! They made guesses, experimented, observed and recorded results! They observed what happened when a drop of dish soap was added to a container of milk and colored water, they tried to mix colored water and oil and explored the reaction between baking soda and vinegar--it was a busy morning!
Students enjoyed water and ice experiences today at Science Camp. After we discussed ways we use water and how it changes form students had a great time combining science and art. They were melting ice chunks using salt and colored water--they noticed their red, yellow and blue water sometimes blended into other colors too. Children experimented with watercolor painting by shaking salt on the wet paint to see how the paint changed. Campers discovered playing with ice cubes and tongs was challenging as the ice became very slippery as it started melting! Campers also enjoyed painting on a large ice chunk to see the colors blend. Campers had fun decorating our cement entry area with colorful artwork made by dipping their chalk in cups of water. Before finishing our morning on the playground, Campers enjoyed a refreshing popsicle snack outside!
In today's Science Camp we learned about colors and practiced a lot of fine motor skills. We dripped water colors to make new colors, we dripped paint in our salad spinner to make beautiful spin art, we peeled and broke old crayons to make new bigger crayons, we made our own water color paint by placing dried markers in water and we mixed tempera paints in bags to make new colors--it was a busy day of learning!
We started Science Camp today learning about plants. We had a discussion about living things versus non-living things and agreed that plants are living things. Everyone planted some Marigold seeds to take home and watch. Campers also exercised their hand muscles squeezing glue bottles to create seed collages. For snack our Campers munched on carrots with or without Ranch dip.
Our last day of Nursery Rhyme Summer Camp was full of sheep fun! Students enjoyed the rhymes Little Bo Peep and Mary Had a Little Lamb. They sponge painted their own sheep and had fun coloring their journal page with paint daubers. Free play in the Big Room is always fun too!
Today our Summer Campers enjoyed learning the rhymes about Jack--Jack and Jill and Jack Be Nimble. They watercolor painted their journal page, and watched as their green and blue drops spread and blended on paper towels. Acting out the rhymes was great fun too as they walked up and down our "hill" steps and jumped over our block "candlestick". Campers had fun with language as they thought of different ideas to fetch in Jack's bucket!

They are self-regulating.
Play is so important for kids π
Our first 2 days of Summer Camp have been filled with fun and learning! We started our Nursery Rhymes Journal on Monday; we focus on one rhyme each day so by the end of the week we will have a collection of fun rhymes to take home. Yesterday we learned 1, 2 Buckle My Shoe--it was fun to listen to students recite the rhyme as they walked our number balance beam! Today we clapped while we sang Pat-a-Cake and decorated cakes with colored glue--squeezing glue bottles builds hand muscles!
Consider adding this to your next week's calendar! :)
