Class is in session…It just looks a little different than expected!

The amount of interest and support for our school was astounding and greatly encouraging. Thank you to everyone who shared the posts, liked and followed this page, and left encouraging comments.

That being said, the majority of those interested are waiting until their child is old enough (2nd grade for our group), which means I currently only have one student–my son! We are still utilizing our classroom at Freedom Christian Fellowship and are thankful for that learning environment that allows us to focus and also to prepare for more students. If you or someone you know is interested in joining, please know that at this time, I am basically a semi-private tutor (with one student) until we get a few students enrolled. The benefit to that is more one-on-one instruction for your student. You can enroll at any time throughout the school year 🙂

I just want to take this opportunity to share our favorite parts of school so far....

- Ranked #1 is the flexibility of Mondays and Fridays!! We have been sticking to our 9:00-2:00 schedule Tuesdays-Thursdays for the most part, but now that we have routines down, we finish before lunch. Mondays and Fridays, we are “off” except for doing some skills practice on IXL. On Mondays we have plenty of time to do chores at home and run errands, and on Fridays we get together with our Synergy Group (about four-five other homeschool families) to have some fun lessons and fellowship. This past Friday we made challah bread with our group, and it was an amazing day.

- Our next favorite thing will come as no surprise–Spanish! We start the day practicing the date and conversation phrases (Daniel loves tossing a ball as we practice). He learned numbers 0-30, so we started doing some of his math activities in Spanish. We had a lot of fun with a poem about the rain (since we were supposed to have bad weather last week), called “Escucha la lluvia” (“Listen to the Rain”). He listened while I read the poem and used a flyswatter to “get” the vocabulary words on the wall. I was pretty amazed at how well he did with that activity, and then he got to teach me the words.

- Another special experience is Bible time. Daniel is learning his way around a physical Bible, memorizing verses, and discussing passages. We read about a different country each week and how we can pray for them. We also read about historical figures who displayed different virtues and faith in their lives. I love that this fosters an ongoing conversation throughout the week about the Lord and how to live for Him!

Every day, we pray for our micro school and for God to bless any future students wherever they are, and for God to be glorified in what we do, whether we have one student or a full classroom. Below is a photo of our classroom at the start of the school year. It is slowly being transformed! 🩵

Math-U-See is an easy-to-use program that is skill-based, rather than grade-based. When a family registers for our school, each student completes an online diagnostic to determine their skill level for math (We also do this for language arts!). The appropriate level of curriculum will be provided to each individual student in order to meet their needs, allowing them to learn at their own pace. Check out the Math-U-See website:

Math-U-See focuses on Building Understanding. What began as a simple, effective way to show students “why” math works has grown into an award-winning K-12 program, products focused on specific intervention strategies, and a classroom system that can be used alongside any existing curriculum. What about curriculum?

We will be using My Father's World curriculum for Bible, Language Arts, Geography, Science, and Art. My favorite things about this curriculum are that it is God-centered and is designed to teach multiple grade levels together. Check out their website for more information! Wondering about math? See my next post ☺️

My Father's World Christian homeschool curriculum combines the best of Charlotte Mason's ideas, classical education, and unit studies with a biblical worldview and global focus.
