After learning about the 7 Habits during Leader in Me time, the third grade at EME decided to hold a "Win Win Walk-a-thon" to benefit the EME PTA. The children got pledges from their friends and family and then did laps around Glennette Field. The event reinforced the importance of physical fitness and benefited our hard-working PTA, which funds many wonderful things here at EME. The students raised a total of $881.19!!! Great job kids, it was truly a "WIN WIN"!

Band students from HBE and EME recently performed at the NYSSMA Solo Festival held at Sullivan West High School. The musicians performed a solo, scales, and sight-reading for a NYSSMA adjudicator and received ratings and comment sheets. Everyone did a fantastic job and they were presented with NYSSMA medals. Congratulations to these shining stars!

HBE's Zero Hour Physical Education program has just concluded after an outstanding year.

Zero Hour Physical Education is a research-based philosophy that links physical activity with brain function. The idea behind this philosophy is to get students physically active before the school day starts. This will essentially get their brains more oxygenated and ready to learn. Studies have shown that students who are physically active perform better in school, manage their time more efficiently, have better self-esteem, and are less likely to “get into trouble”. Our Physical Education Staff designed lessons and activities that maximized their time and enabled students to get into their target heart rate zones.

For the year, 5th-grade students in the program participated in physical activity from 7:20-8:20 AM before the start of the school day. The students played a variety of sports and activities throughout the year.

Congratulations to this year's Zero Hour PE students!
