Sacred Death Doula Training – November 6-8, 2026

The Sacred Death Doula Training is a heart-centered, comprehensive program for those who wish to provide compassionate, informed, and meaningful end-of-life support.

This hybrid experience includes:

10–15 hours of self-paced online learning and reflection
An immersive weekend retreat on the shores of Lake Huron
Hands-on simulations and experiential learning
Guidance from experienced end-of-life professionals
Overnight accommodations, meals, and retreat fees

Preparation for National End-of-Life Doula Alliance proficiency assessment

The World Is Beginning to Recognize the Work of Death Doulas

A recent article in The New Yorker, “The Doulas Who Help Us Die,”(https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2026/08/17/the-doulas-who-help-us-die) explores the growing movement of people choosing to support individuals and families as they navigate the end of life.

Death doulas provide nonmedical, compassionate support through presence, deep listening, education, advance-care planning, legacy work, grief support and sacred accompaniment. At the heart of this work is a willingness to remain present—to honor each person’s wishes, dignity, beliefs and unique experience.

The Blue Water Doula Collective’s Death Doula Training returns in November 6-8, 2026 in Lakeport, Michigan at the Huron Retreat Center.

Our training blends ancient wisdom with modern end-of-life care, preparing participants to support—not take over—with compassion, confidence, ethical awareness and respect for personal autonomy.

This work is not learned only through the mind. It is felt, lived and carried.

Whether you are a caregiver, healthcare professional, holistic practitioner, community volunteer or someone who simply feels drawn to serve others through life’s final transition, you are welcome.

Following completion of the training, participants may choose to continue their journey through BWDC membership, which offers ongoing mentorship, professional support, community connection and resources as you begin or deepen your doula practice.
