💼🌟 Next STEP students are hard at work in our community!

Our student workers at Lake Huron Medical Center, Meijer, Casey's, and Pine River Nature Center are putting their skills into action and gaining valuable real-world work experience!

From learning new tasks and following workplace routines to building independence, teamwork, and confidence, our students continue to show what they can do when given the opportunity to learn on the job. 🙌

We are thankful for our community partners who provide meaningful work-based learning opportunities for our students!

🍎🍂 Explorer Job of the Week: Orchard Worker!

This week, our Explorer classes visited The Property Farms And McCallum's Orchardto learn all about the different jobs it takes to keep an orchard running!

Students learned about the many responsibilities orchard workers have and then got some hands-on practice of their own. They worked on identifying apples on the ground that could be collected for deer and practiced gathering and placing them into bags. 🍎🦌

It was a great opportunity to practice following directions, staying on task, working together, and learning about a new type of job in our community!

💼 Learning on the job at Next STEP!

Our students have been busy building their workplace skills throughout the community! This week, you can find Next STEP students hard at work at Marysville Meijer, By The Water Thrift in Marine City, and the Blue Water Free Store and Ministry Center in Port Huron.

Each worksite gives our students the opportunity to learn new tasks, practice following directions, stay organized, work as a team, and build greater independence. 🙌

Different worksites. Different tasks. Lots of new skills being learned!

Our Next STEP Detroit Lions fans are ready to cheer on Detroit tonight! We had plenty of Honolulu Blue in the building—but one student was brave enough to stand alone! 😂

Gabe proudly represented the Buffalo Bills as our lone Bills fan! 🔵🔴 He held his ground surrounded by Lions fans, and it was all in good fun!
No matter who you’re rooting for, we love seeing our students show their team spirit and have some fun together!

📝 Pre-Work Meeting ➡️ Ready to Work!

Before our Explorer students start work at Creekside Learning Center, we begin each day with a “pre-work meeting” right at the worksite. Students review where they'll be working, the tasks they’ll complete, and any important safety concerns for the day.

Today, we took it one step further—students were asked to create their own task lists! 🙌

Creating a task list helps students practice organization, planning, independence, and understanding workplace expectations before the job even begins. The photos show our students working hard to put their plans together before heading out to complete their tasks!
