Our mission is to teach and preserve boatbuilding and marine systems skills while developing the individual as a craftsman. The Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding is committed to providing students a quality education in wooden boatbuilding, and marine systems. We strive to impart sound, practical knowledge to foster the next generation of problem solvers and skilled craftspeople. We are accredited through the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC) and upon successful completion, award an Associate of Occupational Studies (AOS) degree in our 12-month long Boatbuilding program, a Diploma in our 9-month Marine Systems program, and a Certificate for our 5-day Marine Systems Intensives. Located in Port Hadlock, WA on seven acres of waterfront property with more than 20,000 square feet of shop space, the Boat School's Port Hadlock Heritage Campus is located near the heart of more than 50 maritime business on Port Townsend Bay and only two hours northwest of Seattle, WA.

CONSTRUCTION: Western red cedar planks on oak frames. Bronze fastenings throughout.
Nearly 50 years ago, Port Townsend boatbuilder and Boat School instructor emeritus Ray Speck drew the lines for the Sid skiff. He was living in Sausalito, California, at the time and admired Jayne, a skiff owned by the harbormaster, Sid Foster. With Sid’s permission, Ray took the lines from the lapstrake skiff, and used those lines to develop a range of skiffs from 13 to 18 feet. This one, built by the Boat School’s current Boatbuilding class, rows as well as it sails. The skiff comes with spars, sails, and a set of student crafted oars.

NW School of Wooden Boatbuilding graduate Matt Woodside just brought a Cape George 36 and Hasse sails to the most famous international sailing race in history. He's generously using his worldwide visibility to promote the maritime trades in Port Townsend.
