The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District, the Kenai Peninsula Education Association, and the Kenai Peninsula Educational Support Association are pleased to announce they have reached a tentative agreement on three-year contracts for both Associations, covering the 2025-2026, 2026-2027, and 2027-2028 school years. Subject to ratification of Association membership and approval by the KPBSD School Board, the contract agreements include:

• Meaningful salary increases for all members of the bargaining units, including retroactive pay to current employees for the 2025-2026 school year.
• A significant increase in the employer contribution to the District’s self-insured health care plan.
• Agreement on language in numerous other articles to improve the working environment for certified and classified personnel.

The District and the Associations appreciate the professionalism, commitment, and dedication demonstrated by both bargaining teams throughout the negotiation process. “We are grateful for the resolve of our members and the willingness of both sides to work together toward an agreement that serves our students, families, and hardworking public school employees,” said Becca Walker and Susanna Litwiniak, KPEA/KPESA Presidents.

KPBSD Superintendent Clayton Holland agreed and said, “I appreciate the work of all three bargaining teams in reaching this tentative agreement, especially during a time when our District continues to face difficult budget decisions. Our employees are at the center of everything we do for students, providing high quality instruction, meals, and the many services that support our students and schools each day. I believe this is a fair and competitive agreement that recognizes the value of our employees, helps us recruit and retain great people, and supports our continued focus on students.”

KPEA and KPESA will now review the tentative agreement before taking a ratification vote in late August/early September. The KPBSD School Board would then consider the ratified agreement for approval during its September meeting.

Little Moments Matter

As the school year begins, it's often the little moments that stay with us the longest.

A student proudly sharing something they've learned.

A classmate offering a helping hand.

Laughter echoing down the hallway.

A smile when something finally makes sense.

These moments may seem small, but they're the moments that help build a great school year. They remind us that learning is about so much more than lessons. It's about growing in confidence, kindness, and curiosity—and finding joy along the way.

We're grateful to begin another year with our students, families, and community.

Here's to all the little moments that will make this year one to remember.

💙 Port Graham School Needs Substitute Employees! 💙

We are looking for community members who would be willing to join our substitute list and help support our school throughout the year.

Substitutes are an important part of keeping our school running smoothly. When a staff member is sick, has to travel for training, or needs to be away for another reason, having a substitute allows us to keep students’ schedules and routines as consistent as possible. Without substitutes, we sometimes have to rearrange staff and schedules to provide coverage, which can impact instruction and consistency for our students.

You don’t have to commit to working every day! Being an approved substitute simply gives us another person we can call when help is needed. Even if you are only available occasionally, you can make a difference for our students and staff.

If you have a high school diploma, and are interested in supporting the children of our community, we would love to have you apply!

Every Child Has a Place

One of the best parts of the beginning of the school year is watching our classrooms come to life again.

Most of our students are returning to familiar classrooms, familiar faces, and routines they already know. This year, we're also excited to welcome several new students into our school family.

This week, names begin appearing on desks, notebooks, lockers, and classroom spaces. It's a simple reminder that every child has a place here and something important to contribute.

Every student brings different strengths, interests, ideas, and talents. Together, those unique gifts are what make Port Graham School such a special place to learn and grow.

We're excited for another year of learning together.

Port Graham School is looking for a temporary paraprofessional to join our team immediately, or as soon as possible. This position is 7 hours per day, Monday–Friday, from 8:30 AM–4:30 PM with a one-hour lunch, and will continue through the end of first quarter in mid-October. This is an important position supporting our students and helping us provide a safe, caring, and successful learning environment.
