The 2026 Western CMP Games are set for Oct. 9-18 at Ben Avery Shooting Facility. This event offers a comprehensive range of outdoor rifle and pistol competitions for all skill levels, including new Long-Range opportunities. Participants can enhance their skills through Marksmanship 101 courses, and enjoy a variety of CMP merchandise on-site. From Mentored to Mentors: Mariner Coaches Pay Championship Lessons Forward

A culture of mentorship helped build Mariner’s championship program. Now its coaches are working to multiply that investment across junior marksmanship.

Before Mariner High School became a JROTC National Champion, before the state championships and national titles, and before coaches began traveling to Southwest Florida to attend its annual Army Marksmanship Unit Coaching Clinic, Major (Ret.) Bryan Williams and Coach Marybeth Williams were simply two coaches with an ambitious vision and a lot to learn.

They wanted to build a championship program.

Fortunately, some of the most successful coaches in junior marksmanship were willing to show them how.

That spirit of mentorship became part of the foundation of Mariner’s program. Years later, it is also helping shape what the Williamses hope will become part of their legacy: successful coaches helping the next generation of coaches build programs of their own.

USAMU International Rifle Team Shines at CMP National Matches with Multiple 1–2 Finishes and Team Titles

CAMP PERRY, Ohio — Morning light over Lake Erie has a way of softening the edges of Camp Perry’s century-old ranges. But once the relays begin, the quiet shoreline transforms into one of America’s most demanding proving grounds for competitive marksmanship.

This year, as roughly 300 athletes stepped onto the firing lines for the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s National Smallbore and Air Gun Championships, the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit’s International Rifle Team quickly became the group to watch.

Across 10-meter air rifle and 50-meter smallbore—and through qualification relays, elimination finals and team championships—USAMU Soldiers delivered a week of disciplined, confident shooting that produced multiple 1–2 finishes and three major team titles. Their performances didn’t just stand out; they shaped the story of the 2026 National Matches.

After a short break, our Monthly Matches are set to return to the Judith Legerski CMP Competition Center in Anniston, Ala., and the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center in Port Clinton, Ohio, in September!

Both facilities are equipped with indoor electronic target air ranges and feature events for adults and juniors like:
- Air Rifle 3x20
- 60 Shot Air Rifle
- 60 Shot Air Pistol

Those competing in Alabama will also have the chance to take part in a special 3x20 Smallbore Match, held at our CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park!
