In bringing two styles of education—traditional liberal arts and sciences programs and conservatory-based arts programs—into close contact on one campus, the founders of Purchase College hoped to inspire an appreciation for both intellectual and artistic talents in all students. Founded by Governor Nelson Rockefeller in 1967 as the cultural gem of the State University of New York system, Purchase College today enjoys a world-class reputation for its arts programs and high rankings for its liberal arts and sciences programs. The College attracts students and faculty from around the world to its 550 acre suburban campus located just 35 miles north of New York City. We bring together students seeking a place where they can develop their talents, expand their minds, and prepare for a life of intellectual and creative independence. The approximately 4,000 students and 300 faculty members here are not passive culture appreciators, they are active culture generators. We’re so thankful to Samara Joy and Her Septet for coming to SUNY Purchase today for a master class with students in the Conservatory of Music. Both Samara and her tenor sax/bass clarinet player, Kendric McCallister, studied at Purchase and even had multiple jam sessions during their time here.

It was a full circle moment to welcome them back to where their journeys began, and we’re grateful for the inspiration they’ve given our students.

We’re proud to announce the Guaranteed Entrance Program between SUNY Purchase and SUNY Upstate Medical University!

Starting fall 2027, the program will admit up to five highly motivated students each year directly from high school to SUNY Purchase, with guaranteed admission to Upstate Medical for their medical degree.

Students will be able to pursue a wide range of majors while working towards a career in medicine. The program also eliminates the MCAT requirement, cutting down barriers so students can focus on their academic and professional development.
