One of the great things about Purchase is that our students have so many opportunities for hands-on learning, internships, and jobs like Cinema and Television Studies student, Augie, had at The Capitol Theatre!
Huge thank you to Augie for all the energy, laughs, hard work, and good vibes this season. Augie joined us while he was a fourth-year student at SUNY Purchase College majoring in Cinema and Television Studies, and has since graduated!
Augie helped create content, set up the venue with fresh posters and postcards, and always jumped in wherever needed. He loved rocking out at shows like The Black Keys, Jesse Welles, Dropkick Murphys, Unbroken Chain, and Lettuce, and his happy spirit was always contagious.
Thanks for always bringing the smiles and being such an awesome part of the team. Congrats again on graduating, Augie - we’re excited to see what’s next for you 🎶🙌 Squirrellllllssssss!!!! 🐿️

It was an honor to present Audrey Tyrka, MD, Ph.D. ‘88 with a President’s Award for Distinguished Alumni. Tyrka is a psychiatrist and researcher known for her work on the biological impact of childhood trauma and her efforts to advance equity and healthcare while also maintaining an active art practice in painting and photography.
In her remarks, she states “Creativity is a way of moving through the world. It means thinking deeply and opening yourself up to imagining and creating new possibilities…Enjoy yourself now stop waiting for a better time. Happiness happens in ordinary moments- showing up, connecting with others and doing work that feels meaningful…Carry the best of Purchase with you and keep thinking wide open.”

Congratulations to visionary choreographer and dancer Kyle Abraham ‘00, our 2026 Commencement Honorary Degree Recipient!
Fresh off being named a 2026 Guggenheim fellow, Abraham received a Doctor of Fine Arts honorary degree at this year’s ceremony in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the arts.
