Mrs. Sorenson’s kindergarteners had a Chicka Chicka Boom Boom kind of day! They read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and then headed to different centers to expand on the story through a variety of fun and engaging activities. 🔬🪱 Mrs. Hickman’s and Mrs. Shakan’s fifth graders became scientists during an exciting investigation of earthworm preferences. Using the scientific method, students developed questions, made predictions, designed and conducted fair tests, collected data, and analyzed their results. They investigated whether earthworms preferred dark or light environments and wet or dry conditions. Their students practiced careful observation, teamwork, recording evidence, and drawing conclusions based on their data. It was wonderful to see their curiosity in action as they learned more about how earthworms respond to their environment!

⭐️ 😃 There is so much excitement happening in Mrs. Di Natale’s classroom already! Even at the beginning of the year, her 3rd graders are demonstrating incredible collaboration, perseverance, and hard work. This week, her learners experienced the rigor of 3rd grade as they worked with partners using Benchmark stories to identify unfamiliar vocabulary and used clues from the text to determine meaning. In math, they demonstrated their understanding of place value using their new vertical whiteboards. Her mathematicians are already using academic vocabulary and providing thoughtful justifications to explain their mathematical thinking. We are so proud of the learning, teamwork, and growth happening every day in Mrs. Di Natale’s classroom!

🥬🥔Mrs. Smith’s 1st graders are learning how scientists use their five senses to observe and explore the world around them. During this lesson, they focused on their sense of taste. Her young scientists sampled four different foods ~ spinach, apples, chips, and lime ~ and used their taste buds to decide whether each food was bitter, salty, sweet, or sour. After their taste test, students wrote about their favorite food and explained why it was their favorite. We love seeing our Mighty Manatees learning through hands-on experiences!
