🇺🇸 Veteran of the Month — Christian “Chris” Meyer 🇺🇸
This month, we are proud to recognize Lieutenant Commander Christian “Chris” Meyer, a United States Navy Veteran whose story reflects service, leadership, perseverance, and a lifelong connection to the Navy.
Born and raised in Quincy, Massachusetts, Chris grew up in a true Navy family. Both of his parents served our country during World War II — his father spent 26 years in the Navy as a Senior Radio Chief, while his mother served as a telegraph operator.
From an early age, military service was woven into Chris’s life and eventually became an important part of his own story.
Before entering the Navy, Chris graduated from Northeastern University in Boston and began his career in education, working as a physical education and health teacher. But the dream of serving his country never completely left him.
In 1981, Chris saw an opportunity to become a Navy officer and went for it. After completing the required training, he earned his commission just days before his 35th birthday and began a remarkable career as a Surface Warfare Officer.
His Navy journey took him from San Diego and the Pacific to the Philippines and several ships, where he served in roles involving communications, operations, personnel management, training, and command.
During his career, Chris completed multiple deployments, earned his Surface Warfare Officer insignia, qualified as an Officer of the Deck, and served in numerous leadership positions both at sea and ashore.
His service was recognized with many military honors, including three Navy Commendation Medals, two Navy Achievement Medals, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and several other decorations and commendations.
But there is another side of Chris that we love just as much — music! 🎶 Chris was a professional drummer, also plays some piano and keyboard, and will even sing when he knows the words.
He also enjoys woodworking and gardening, proving there is no shortage of talent behind that Navy uniform!
Today, Chris is a valued part of our ActivAge family, where his experiences, talents, and lifetime of stories continue to make him someone very special to know.
