Why is preparing for the ACT so important?

🔹ACT tutoring allows students to practice and refine test strategies under actual test conditions
🔹 Students are able to focus on areas where they need extra practice, well in advance of the test date
🔹 Tutoring sessions provide students with further practice of test content and help significantly raise scores

When I started teaching English over ten years ago, I knew I had found my passion. Seeing and hearing my students make connections from their lives to the texts we were reading, growing their vocabulary, increasing their reading levels by the end of the school year, and feeling confident in writing a complete essay independently, are all things that make my heart full.

I truly love seeing my students gain confidence in their English abilities and learn to like (even love) their English courses when they didn't think they ever would. Being able to now help students improve and hone their skills even further is something that brings me true fulfillment. 📚📝📖

It is hard to believe the end of the school year is already upon us, but here we are! Other than the beginning of the school year, this can also be one of the most stressful times of the year, but it doesn't have to be!

There are two summer ACT dates coming up on June 10th and July 15th! Summer is a great time to take the ACT for several reasons. Students have more free time in the summer, which allows them to focus on prep. Also, by taking a summer ACT, students can get their results in plenty of time for early application deadlines. It is so important to remind our students that mistakes help them learn and grow!
🧠 🌱 ✏️ Just because they don’t understand a concept at first, doesn’t mean they never will. They just haven’t mastered it YET! Some ways to help reinforce a growth mindset are:

▪️Giving feedback on their work
▪️Explaining more than one way to get the answer
▪️Providing time for reflection and exercises that can help students practice for next the time
▪️Reinforce that mistakes do not equal failure! They help us improve.

I feel so grateful to be able to work with students one-on-one to help them understand concepts and materials that they need extra support with. When I ask my students what they enjoy most about our tutoring sessions, they often tell me that being able to have a space where they can have extra time to work, ask questions and discuss the content is something that makes all the difference for them in terms of their success.

English and reading can be difficult subjects to conquer for various reasons. Literacy is the basis of all of our communication, so it is important that students have the extra time and support they need to gain confidence in their reading and writing skills. Private tutoring gives students of all ages a space to think, discuss, and practice different skills, so they can become confident learners and succeed educationally. 📚📖📄📓📝💻

One of the most effective ways for your student to build their literacy skills throughout the school year AND increase their reading level is to read! 📚

When I was a child I couldn't wait for my mom to take me to our library each week to pick out new books to read. As an educator, I understand that not every student shares the same sentiment in regard to reading, especially when the school year is already busy and can be stressful.

A growth mindset is so important for students because it helps them overcome challenges and obstacles when learning new skills and concepts, rather than feeling defeated and giving up if they do not succeed on the first try.
