Expeditions surveying the deep, silty collapse floor at 115 meters, far beyond the reach of light, have discovered a haunting relic. Half-buried in the fine sediment rests a massive, ancient, four-fluked iron anchor. It is heavily corroded, covered in rusticles and deep-sea growth, testifying to centuries, perhaps millennia, in the abyss. This anchor is far too large for any local vessels. It hints at an ancient, large-scale maritime disaster where a massive ship, perhaps a Spanish Galleon, was lost over the Blue Hole, its main anchor plummeting into the void.

Love this!

This image captures the scale of the dry cave before it flooded. Unlike the hanging stalactites, these towering stalagmites rose from the floor over millennia. A technical diver is dwarfed by this internal "forest." The 16k resolution highlights the dark, heavy, and wet texture of these deep formations, which resemble branching, wet iron or oxidized metal, contrasting with the smooth calcite seen elsewhere, indicating different chemical environments during their formation.
