The end of the school season is here. The return of a home economics type class with cooking was a great success.

The team and students enjoyed the activities all the same. All the while the students learned valuable skills they can put to great use.

Much appreciation to Assistant Principal, Mr. McDaniel, for accepting the task of being the primary sponsor. Additionally, the teaching staff who assisted along the way.

As mentioned previously, many thanks to the client base of Oh Mai Goodies, cookie company, whose financial donations allowed for: new equipment, kitchen essentials and all of the food/pantry items. Best of all each child was able to take home their own kitchen starter set.

Plans are underway next year for an even better program. Be sure to sign up early when the time comes.

Last cooking session of the season and jambalaya was on the menu!

They were a little wary about all the vegetables and garlic but realized that this is where the seasoning comes from!

Who says school can’t be fun? These kids’ smiles definitely show it…or it might be more about the Nutella cinnamon rolls.

Whichever the case, we’re glad to have them and teach them tools they can employ at home. Especially with summer happening SOON!

The club meets on a weekly basis and the food item is selected by the students.

For this session, they chose cupcakes. Fun but also learning kitchen safety and the importance of following instructions.

These kids are comfortably navigating their way around the kitchen. Simple meals that they can cook on their own.

It was a Taco Tuesday (late post)…

The students were able to split into different teams and workstations.

They learned the basics of utilizing kitchen tools/appliances. Also, the importance of maintaining a neat workspace and cleaning up once you’re done.

We already know what we’re cooking next and can’t wait!
