For decades, the Farley family built and repaired the wooden boats that powered life on the island. Their craftsmanship helped generations of fishermen, shrimpers, and watermen make a living on the Texas coast, creating vessels that were built to withstand the demands of life on the water.
Today, that legacy lives on at Farley Boat Works, where traditional wooden boat-building techniques are preserved and shared with new generations. It’s more than the workshops offered, it's a place where history is kept alive one plank, one tool, and one story at a time.
As part of our "The People Who Built Port A" series this month, we're celebrating the families and individuals whose hard work, skill, and dedication shaped the Port Aransas we know today.

The 18’ Port A Skiff is coming together! ⚓🪵
Our boat builders have reached another exciting milestone - the decks are officially on! Every step of the process brings them closer to launching a handcrafted skiff while learning traditional wooden boatbuilding skills along the way.
Next up: building the floor and center console.
It's incredible to watch this project take shape one piece at a time, and we can't wait to share the finished boat with you. Stay tuned for more updates as these future craftsmen continue bringing the Port A Skiff to life!

⚓️ Build a piece of Port Aransas maritime history! ⚓️
Join us at Farley Boat Works for our 5-Day Boat Building Course and learn the craft of traditional wooden boat building. Over the course of one week, participants will work together to construct the classic 14-foot Port Aransas Skiff — a flat-bottom boat designed for exploring local flats and cuts by row or with a 5–10 hp outboard motor.
As part of this hands-on workshop, every participant will be entered into a raffle, and one lucky builder will take home the finished wooden boat at the end of the event!
Spots are limited to 10 participants and are open to ages 14 and up, so don’t miss this unique opportunity to learn a timeless skill and create something truly special.
