The Children's Montessori School provides preschool and kindergarten for children ages three through six.

Manners, love of reading, curiosity and kindness are all skills our students take with them for the rest of their lives. Our school was founded in 1992 by Sally Garlick and was located in the First Presbyterian Church. In 1995 we moved to 708 East 8th Street where we spent the next 15 years! We are currently located within the First Baptist Church of Port Angeles. There are currently 24 students under the instruction of 4 teachers.

🐝✨ This week our classroom has been buzzing with excitement! ✨🐝

The Children’s Montessori was thrilled to welcome our dear friend, Mark the Bee Guy, back to the classroom! Mark shared his wonderful knowledge of our local honeybees, giving the children an opportunity to learn about these fascinating pollinators up close. His visit sparked so much curiosity, wonder, and thoughtful conversation among our students!
Students were also eager to explore more hands-on materials in the classroom, including step counting and other Montessori learning activities. Our students have been busy practicing teamwork, collaborating on creative building projects, and discovering new ways to learn through hands-on exploration!

Today we welcomed our students back to school 💛 September is full of fun, learning, and new adventures at The Children’s Montessori School. We can’t wait to see all the wonderful things this month will bring! ✨📚🍎

For some children, saying goodbye at school can be the hardest part of the day. One way to make that transition easier is to create a special goodbye ritual together before the school year begins. It might be:

🤝 A special handshake
💋 A kiss on the hand, inspired by The Kissing Hand
🪟 A wave from our special “waving window”
❤️ A hug followed by the same simple phrase each morning: “I love you. You are safe. I’ll see you after school.”

Your child may still have big feelings—and that’s okay! The goal isn’t to prevent every tear. It’s to help your child know what to expect and remind them that goodbyes are temporary.

A confident goodbye from a trusted grown-up sends a powerful message: “You are ready. You are safe. And I know you can do this.”

Animal week at CMS! From a whale migration obstacle course and a visit to Patricia’s Pet Shop, to our animal “Guess Who?” game using s**t and tracks—our little explorers had so much fun learning about the animals around us! 🐋🐾🔎

A new school year is a big transition—and there are so many little ways you can help your child feel confident and excited for what’s ahead!

One of the best ways to prepare your preschooler is by giving them opportunities to practice independence at home:

👕 Let them choose between two outfits and practice getting dressed on their own.

🥪 Invite them to help pack their lunch or choose a snack.

🎒 Let them practice opening their backpack, putting on their shoes, and gathering their things.

🧹 Give them simple jobs they can do independently, like putting away their belongings or cleaning up after an activity. Most importantly, remember that independence takes practice. Give your child time, encouragement, and plenty of opportunities to try. ❤️

We can’t wait to welcome our students back and watch them grow this year!
