Before a throw or a kick, a new student learns how to land. Tuck the chin, spread the impact, get back up. It looks like play, and for the little kids it mostly is. It's also the most useful thing we teach.
Most falls in a kid's life don't happen on a mat. They happen on a bike, a sidewalk, the stairs. The body does the same thing either way.
